Surface Transportation Remains Favorite Terrorist Target

Terrorists seek max carnage with low-tech weapons, analyst tells Senate.

The Mumbai attacks demonstrate that terrorists are thinking strategically, leveraging inexpensive weapons to create mass casualties in public spaces, a terrorism analyst told the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Wednesday.

The terrorists who attacked Mumbai on Nov. 26, 2008, achieved a number of key objectives despite being ultimately defeated, testified Brian Michael Jenkins, a senior advisor at the RAND Corp.

My Comment: The Mumbai attacks clearly showed one thing .... a small team of terrorists can easily cause enormous damage with a minimum of equipment and weapons. Terror groups know this .... the only thing is that the U.S. has never experienced a modern day attack using such resources. If (when) such an attack was to occur, heavily populated public areas (transportation hubs) will be where they will attack.
