Aleppo: Scenes From A City of Ruins -- Time

Italian photographer Alessio Romenzi has been chronicling the Syrian civil war for months. The following pictures of his are from a few days in mid-April spent in the battle-scarred city of Aleppo. They include a glimpse of a rebel fighter encamped in the famed Great Mosque of Aleppo, built nearly a thousand years ago by the once mighty Umayyad dynasty.

My Comment: Aleppo is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world .... being inhabited since perhaps as early as the 6th millennium BC. To see it's destruction .... especially parts of the Old City .... is a crime that will be felt long after this conflict has ended.

Update:
The two Bishops Of Aleppo who were kidnapped earlier this week are still missing.
