Using A B-1 Bomber To Drop A 2,000 lb To Destroy A Tiny 'Pirate Boat'

The Air Force Blew Up This Tiny ‘Pirate Boat’ With A 2,000-Pound Smart Bomb -- Max Fisher, Washington Post

The Air Force wants to prove that its B-1B "Lancer" supersonic strategic bomber isn't just useful for invading Iraq, it's also good at blowing up tiny pirate boats. And what better way to do that than by taking it out to the Gulf of Mexico and having it drop a high-tech, 2,000-pound GBU-10 smart bomb on an empty motor boat that probably weighs half as much and costs less?

My Comment: If you have been around as long as I have been in covering news on the military .... you will then remember this gem of a remark from a former US Defense Secretary on using Air Force jets fighters against Somali pirate boats .... Gates on the F-22 being used against Somali pirate boats .... “Does Not Make Much Sense”. So what did not make sense only 4 years ago makes perfect sense now .... especially if a bigger more expensive jet/bomber is used.

Sighhhh .... I just cannot make this stuff up.
