THE GIRL FROM LENINGRAD TRULY GREAT RUSSIAN WAR MOVIE

Peter .... I completely forgot about that movie .... but you are right .... a fantastic film released (December, 1941) at the beginning of the war for the Soviet Union. A simple short film .... but extremely moving. Unfortunately for the English audience .... it is in Russian and I have never seen a dubbed version of it in English.

Thank you Peter for the lead. I was actually looking for it about half an hour ago. But I have not been able to find the 1943 English version.

I have never heard any report on my humble submission of "Wind and the Lion".

Alas James .... but I have yet to find a good version of Wind and the Lion that is in the public domain. But all of the old films are now being put online .... so it is only a question of time before this film becomes available. Sighhhh .... a young Candice Bergman .... I would move mountains for a lady like that.

Alright then. I played golf yesterday so I've been cranky ever since. My swing looked like I was fending off a pack of rabid squirrels. So it's off to the range for confession and atonement of my many sins and transgressions.

We are thinking alike. I am off to my game right now ... and I have also been playing "shit" this year. But here is the fun part .... my other three partners in today's match are three young and very junior diplomats from ICAO (UN aviation organization) .... and they are from China, Japan, and South Korea. I am the Russian expat now Canadian citizen (and old fart) that they have to listen to.

Guess what we are going to talk about today.

Fending off rabid squirrels may be the least of my concerns this afternoon.

_Red Baron_ was a good
movie. I just watched
this with my #6 son. He's
a war history buff and kept
telling me what would happen
next. The movie was much
better and more realistic
than _Flyboys_.

Back in the mid '70s, I
met a US fighter pilot
from WWI. I didn't get
much time to talk to him,
but he was an extremely
interesting man. We were
moving his wife and him
out of their old house.
He was a pack rat. I
remember that he had
every generation of radio
stashed away.
