Russia's Five Most Lethal Land Weapons of War -- Michael Peck, National Interest

Should direct conflict erupt between Russia and Ukraine, or between NATO and Russia, the Russian Army will be fielding some powerful weapons.

Purists may argue whether they are better or worse than comparable U.S. or NATO equipment. In many cases, we can't and won't know unless there rival weapons meet in battle. But what is clear is that the Russian Army has weapons far more sophisticated than anything the West has encountered in places like Iraq and Afghanistan. It has been decades since even the Israelis fought advanced Russian tanks.

What lethal weapons can Russia bring to bear in Ukraine? Here are five:

My Comment: The Russian RPG-30 anti-tank rocket is a system that can defeat Israel's Trophy system (see previous post). As for the other weapons .... they are just as good as what Western armies can field .... and just as effective.

I'm not that impressed with the article, but some of the comments were interesting. In the end you never really know what's good or not until it's used in battle.

I also know one thing for certain, I would NOT want to be the guy in the cupola on top the turret. Talk about short life span.

James: That guy will turn in as soon as they going to combat. The mounted heavy mg is not as often used as the main canon or the coax mg. Modern and mostly urban combat showed that the weapon ( in this case the mg ) itself is very vulnerable against everything, even if the tank itself is strong and can resist against bullets or shells. You even can destroy a machinegun like that with a few bullet fired from an AK or M4. In Syria they usualy just unmount them and give it to the infantry to use as a very effective HMG.

Another "experiance" about the tank crews, and what position is the most dangerous. In Syria and Iraq, the video-documented tank casualities show the drivers die in most of the cases. Commander and gunner has a way higher chance to survive, even if they not always do so.

no one knows if the Russian weapons can match the West's unless they are tested in battle-- pretty irresponsible to claim parity

mlacix,
yeah, I figured everyone would button up when anything got hot, but still I know the army and if it's there some dumb-ss would want someone up there at the wrong time. Never did like armor, always attracted a lot of attention.
