As all of you readers can tell .... I am not a fan of Gorbachev. Having said that .... the chance of a nuclear war in Europe because of Ukraine is .... zero.

Looks like Mikhail is still having pigeon trouble.
This is not the first time Old Cold Warriors from both sides have made that comment.
During the Cold War, the " best" NATO managed during wargames, was 22 hours before a NATO/Warsaw Pact war went nuclear.
Now of course, there are a lot of loose cannons in the Ukraine Civil War.

Why exactly is the chance of nuclear war over Ukraine "zero?" The Russians have made this abundantly clear, if their media sources are to believed, that keeping Ukraine and Crimea friendly to Russia is a matter of life or death to them. As such, why should we blithely assume the Russians would not resort to nuclear war to preserve a Ukrainian government allied with Russia or punish the Americans for intervening in their back yard so to speak?
When I first learned of the pro-Russian government in Ukraine being ousted, at that time I stated any involvement we (America) had in this should be ended IMMEDIATELY. Not only did we not end our involvement but we seem to have gotten in deeper.
Form the start, I pointed out for us to intricate ourselves in this was/is the dumbest move ever made by a major power in the history of civilization. As such, we should be doing anything and everything to extricate ourselves from this by ANY and ALL means necessary.
In summary and very respectfully, I simply see no basis to dismiss the idea out of hand that our involvement in Ukraine could not lead to nuclear war. Essentially if Germany and the EU want Ukraine in the EU they can pursue this without us.
I lived during the Cold War .... that was a time when the possibility of a nuclear war was very real. Today .... we are not even close to what was happening during that time .... and thank God it did not end in a nuclear war.
