Confirmed: U.S. Has Ordered Air Strikes Against Islamic State Positions In Tikrit



Reuters: Orders given for U.S.-led strikes on Iraq's Tikrit: U.S. official

(Reuters) - The U.S.-led coalition has received orders to start carrying out strikes in support of Iraqi operations against Islamic State fighters in the city of Tikrit and operations are underway, a U.S. defense official told Reuters on Wednesday, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The official said the strikes themselves had not yet started and described the ongoing operations as preparatory.
