Questions Raised On Ukaine President Poroshenko's Land Deals

Radio Free Europe: Questions Raised Over Poroshenko's Role In Valuable Kyiv Land Deal

KYIV -- An investigation by RFE/RL shows that Ukrainian leader Petro Poroshenko may have used his presidential influence to shut down investigations into a land deal aimed at building a private mansion on a historic site in the Ukrainian capital.

Two reports broadcast on RFE/RL's Ukrainian-language television program, Schemes, reveal that over the course of seven years, Poroshenko quietly appropriated more than a hectare of protected land in Kyiv's elite Pechera district and recently quashed an inquiry into the damage of an 18th-century structure caused by construction work on his plot.

WNU Editor: Not surprising .... the Russian press is pouncing on this story .... Abuse of Power: Ukraine's Poroshenko Exposed in $25 Mln Land Deal Cover-up (Sputnik). What's my take .... past Ukraine leaders always used their positions to enrich themselves and their allies/friends, Ukraine President Poroshenko is just continuing this long tradition. This Radio Free Europe report is also just the tip of a very big story .... the collapse of the Ukraine economy and its currency has made everything cheap in the country .... and those with money (both inside and outside the country) are now buying up everything at a fraction of what it would have cost them just 2 years ago. Case in point .... I have mentioned more than once in this blog that there is home and property in Odessa that I have always had my eye on .... it went on the market a few months ago at 50% below what it would have cost me a few years back. No .... I did not buy it .... Canada is now my home .... but it was tempting. It was also a sign to me on how undervalued everything in Ukraine has become and how the Ukraine's rich oligarchs (Poroshenko included) are going to become even more richer when this crisis has passed.

WNU Editor,

Maybe, maybe not. Busineses and Properties that have not registered with the Tax Regime in the DPR and LPR are being seized and will be run as State Properties, along a mix of Crown Corporation and Argentine Workers Cooperatives models.

In the rest of the Ukraine comes the question of what will happen when the "War" is realized to be lost, the IMF Regime is in full force, and the corruption becomes excessive.

Will the Ukrainians passively accept that, or given that one goal of Maiden was to rid the country of corruption and Ogliarchy, will there be another "Maiden"?

I do not know what is happening in the private sector in the DPR and LPR .... I am more knowledgeable about what is happening in the rest of Ukraine. But people with money have a good history of predicting what will happen next, and those with money in Ukraine are buying up the hard assets expecting paper money to become even more worthless.

On a side note Jay, I am digesting (and steaming inside) on Chrystia Freeland's post for Brookings (she is a Liberal MP from Toronto). I told her last year that if the Canadian government did what the Ukraine government was doing to Russian-Ukrainians in the east .... we would be having a crisis in Quebec that would make the FLQ crisis and the imposition of the War Measures Act in the 1970s pale in comparison .... she of course disagreed. I told her in April of last year that Ukraine was heading for a disaster .... she of course disagreed. Anyway .... I am going to post more on her late tonight or tomorrow as a rebuttal and your feedback would be appreciated, her post at Brookings is at the following link .... http://www.brookings.edu/research/essays/2015/myukraine?cid=00900016020016401US0001

WNU Editor,

I'll take a look and write to you by this afternoon, my time, not yours.

WNU Editor,

That didn't take long. Her Grandparent's back story is "wrong".

The Ukraine in 1939 was Soviet Ukraine, and while there were a few internal refugees, they were economic, not political, the NKVD took care of the Political ones, and the Molotov Ribbentrop pact would have created relief, not fear for the future.

So, her Grandparents had to be in Western Galacia in Poland, and Political Ukrainian Refugee's in Poland, would be UNA-UNO, and involved in the attacks on Poles, Jews, Ruethrans, Hungarians and the Polish State.

Which explains why, as "Ukrainian Refugees" they were in a DP Camp, or other Internment camp, in Germany, post war.

After the war, a lot of the UNA-UNO "folks" were brought to the West, no matter their background, for their Anti-Communist "experience" and they did really "well", politically. Just look at the furor they create when Canada tries to deport Ukrainian SS Members or Concentration Camp Guards. They also propagandized several generations of Ukrainian-Canadians, to the point where Ukrainian Cultural Centers were hotbeds of neo-Nazi organization in the '90's.

That's why there are two Ukrainian Cultural Centers here, one is Ukrainian/Russian/Methodist/Orthodox, the other is Ukrainian/Nationalist/Catholic/Greek Patriarch, and they never mingle.

One tip off is her claims of being a Russophile, "loving" her life in Russia in the early '90's, when Russia was down, broken, life was desperate, short and ugly, and the "best" of Russia could be bought, for a fraction of it's worth, for a few dollars.

You can't change those folks minds, as their Ukrainian Nationalism is a long unbroken line going back to ideas, propaganda, theories and mythology created by the German High Command, back in 1916-17.

I'll write more later, about her actual content.

Through Chapters #1 and #2,

- She has created a false narrative of what Putin has actually said,

- She has utterly minimized the effect of the Language Law, and removed all independent Agency from Russian speaking Ukrainians, and made no note of what happened to the Delegation from Donbass who travelled to Kiev to protest the Law, only on their return, to have their convoy ambushed, with the Delegates dragged out, beaten and humiliated.

Quebecqois wouldn't stand for it, so why should the people of the Donbass?

As I said Jay .... I was steamed when reading it .... and meeting her last year via through Justin to discuss Ukraine and knowing who she is .... it just makes me even more "dark". Selecting what she wants to suit her narrative .... ignoring all the rest .... consequences be damned. I am stuck in meetings today but I will respond late tonight or tomorrow on what she said.

Yup .... life in Russia in the 1990s was pure hell for everyone living there. I was working like hell in Canada at the time and all of my money was going back to my relatives and family in Russia so that they can survive. As I said .... pure hell ... but for people like her with her Western pay check .... a great time.

" As I said .... pure hell ... but for people like her with her Western pay check .... a great time." They are always so brave and wise aren't they. To think they get to the positions they hold is always a mystery to me.

One other thing, I wonder just who is RFE these days, surely they couldn't be the same I'm familiar with.

War News Updates Editor said...

That is a good question James. Radio Free Europe has definitely changed over the years.

Jay Farquharson said...

RFE, is the same "product" in many regards, what is different is that rather than in the Reagan Years, when they gave Voice to the Facist Apologists and the Paperclip Nazi's, ( to the great distress of AIPAC and the Simeon Weisenthal Center),

They now give "Voice" to the NeoLiberals and the Atlanticist Nationalists.

WNU Editor,

I've bookmarked the article, as things got busy and interesting at work. I'll keep adding points over the weekend, which thank's to Queen Victoria, is a long one.

Moudieux anglais .... in Quebec it is Journée nationale des Patriotes!!!! or National Patriots Day.

I prefer calling it Queen Victoria just to bug my nationalist friends but that is another story. :)
