Satellite Image Shows Four Russian Su-30SM At Airfield In Syria With Anti-Aircraft Missiles

The Aviationist: Satellite image shows four Russian Su-30SM parked in the open air at airfield in Syria

Four Russian Flanker derivative have arrived at Latakia airport.

Satellite images prove Russian combat planes have eventually deployed to Syria.

The deployment, anticipated by an air bridge from Russia that involved several An-124 Condor airlifter flights (that we were able to track thanks to their Mode-S transponders) saw the aircraft arrive at al-Assad International Airport, near Latakia, the main Syrian port city, on Sept. 18.

Update: Kerry: Russian fighter jets in Syria raise serious questions (AP)

WNU Editor: The Russians and Syrians are not even bothering to hide these planes .... I can only assume that the are exposing them in the public to make a point. According to the above tweet .... these planes are also carrying anti-aircraft missiles. Since the Syrian rebels and the Islamic State do not have any aircraft, I can only assume that these planes are armed to confront U.S. and coalition aircraft.

"coalition aircraft" perhaps Turkey?

They have to protect themselves for the dread, non-existant ISIS Air Force.

How can it be determined what type of missiles the Russian fighter jets are carrying?

My guess is military grade satellite imagery must be very impressive

Israel.

The Russians are in Syria to block Israel from bombing Iran?

I don't think Israel is concerned about Syrian radar. The M1 or M3 radar facility that overlooked Israel was taken out 2 years ago. Was it rebuilt?

I'm not sure that's relevant. There are a host of reasons for Israeli airplanes to be above Syria. Will Israel be conducting anti-Assad raids over Syria right now with a Russian anti air base up on the west side of the country?

What we RE seeing in Syria is a strong message to the US and it's allies from Russia. Playtime is over. The days of using proxies to overthrow government, conducting invasions, bombinga etc with impunity are finished.

I really don't believe that the majority of North American people, not to mention their ridiculous leaders, understand the changes that are occurring in the world today. Their foolishness on the world stage will no longer be unanswered. These are terrible times for idiots. It's high time for a cultural sea change in terms of political education and involvement.

Monday night football, Don Cherry and Mizz Jenner are simply not going to do.

One indication that this is for real is that NO ONE seems to be discussing it in the current Canadian election campaign. It would be a much too vulgar display of competency in foreign affairs for the candidates (and most of the public) methinks.

RRH .... just for your info .... I am a Canadian citizen living Montreal, and I do follow the Canadian election. I stay away from discussing Canadian politics in this blog because I have many contacts, friends, associates, etc. in all of the political parties. I knew Tom Mulcair when he was a Quebec Liberal cabinet minister under Charest, and I knew Justin Trudeau`s father (he was interested in my contacts in China). Even my business partner in one of my web projects is someone who was once in the FLQ and is a co-founder of the Bloc (he has since renounced separatism). As for the Conservative Party, I have some friends but no direct contact to the PM`s office. All told .... the problem of knowing a lot of people is that if I start opening my mouth .... well .... you get the picture .... I am going to end up getting no Christmas cards this season.

As for the Canadian election .... I will quote to you what some very smart Chinese analysts in their foreign office told me at the beginning of this year .... they predicted (at that time) a 65 cent Canadian dollar (vs. the U.S. dollar) by the end of 2015/beginning 2016, and as to why they made this prediction .... an NDP win in Alberta, and a NDP win in the Federal election. My guess is that they did not like reading what is in the NDP platform, and as foreign investors they gave a negative vote of confidence. As to their political predictions .... I was not surprised by the Alberta vote (conservatives split their vote, and the ruling Tories had lost their way) .... but on the Federal scene .... I am not sure. But just in case ... I will admit that a good part of my liquid assets is now in U.S. dollars .... something that I have not done in years.

Thank you Editor.

I understand and appreicate your position. I hope my posts do not undermine you. This certainly not my intention.

Suffice to say, I believe you can tell, I'm no fan of any of them. I have family who belong to all three main parties and one who works at an mp's office. I remember Herb Gray at my childhood home more than once and my Grandfather (a ww2 vet) arguing with ed broadbent out in the garage as a kid. Many of my family have performed some kind of civic duty, even my mom.

My contrariness (especially after my return from overseas) regarding Canadian politics is very little (under, in my opinion) appreciated among my family members. They call me "anti" and I call them reactionaries.

Come to think of it, I haven't received a Christmas card for quite some time....

As for the Chinese. I worked for/ with them in a managerial role in the resource industry. I can totally concur with your appraisal of their attitude re the NDP in Alberta. This being said, I draw a line of distinction between Chinese should as Mr Xi and those who take up investments in Canada.

As for dollars. Right now I like em green too.

Out of respect for you and your blog I will stop flogging that bunch if you wish.

Oh, and, Pierre Elliot Trudeau, with all his warts, was, and forever will be, my favourite Canadian Prime Minister. In fact, he's the only one I can stand.

And I don't care who read that.

Flog all you want RRH. In all of my years of running this blog .... I think I only censored one comment ... and that person was totally off the wall with his language and cursing. And my readers .... well .... thousands of people read this blog every day .... and you will be surprised on who they are. Some will support what you say, some will not .... but everyone is agreement that suppressing opinions is a no-no.
