USA Today: Exclusive poll: EU support falls after Jo Cox murder

LONDON — British support for remaining in the European Union has weakened in the wake of the murder of the pro-EU politician Jo Cox, according to an online research company Friday.

Qriously, a London-based technology start-up that gathers data and intelligence about consumers through mobile phone apps, found that backing among likely voters for Britain's EU membership has dropped to 32% from 40% before her death.

The poll was based on 1,992 British adults surveyed on June 13-16, and then 1,002 on June 17 — the day after Cox was shot and killed in northern England. The start-up claims to have held the first such survey on the topic since the lawmaker's slaying. Most of Qriously’s surveys are done for corporate brands and it has not been previously conducted an EU referendum poll.

WNU Editor: Another poll is saying the opposite .... Remain campaign pulls ahead of Brexit in EU referendum poll (Scotsman). What's my take .... the murder of pro-EU politician Jo Cox has completely changed the narrative on the question of whether Britain should stay in the EU or not .... and in a referendum where the poll numbers are indicating that it is a very close race .... and with the momentum being taken away from the "Leave" side .... this will have an impact. But will it be enough? I guess we will find out in a few days.

Whether the vote is stay or go doesn't matter. The tide of history is running toward high flood and any measures will be mere delay.

I suspect the referendum will be fixed and the remain side will win, way too much at stake.I guess I'm just cynical.

The momentum seems to be on Leave's side. They might still lose though. Won't necessarily mean it was fixed as polls are unreliable.

I have been predicting for several weeks that BREXIT would win and the British exit from the EU would become reality. I'm sticking to this prediction because I might seem silly to alter this prediction so late and I'm assuming the British aren't going to allow themselves to be distracted by the emotion surrounding the murder of a political leader.

In formulating my prediction of BREXIT, I never fathomed a political leader would be murdered during the process. If Ms. Cox were American, her side would likely receive a 5 to 10% bump in support that would persist for quite some time. Since the election is only a few days away, the other side would have insufficient time to change that.

Ms. Cox is not American and Britain is not America. The two countries have significantly different cultures, historical experiences, and temperaments. As such, her murder may not have tbe same affect it would have in Britain that it would bave in America.

Our prayers an hearts go out to Ms. Cox and her family, friends, and coworkers. May God grant them peace, comfort, and wisdom during this extremely difficult time.

It is vitally important for the British to remain thoughtful and circumspect during while making this drcision. The EU is VERY bad for America. It's bard to think how this ruduculous burdensome bureaucracy can be good for Britain.

In sticking with my initial prddictikn, I'm assuming tbe British are more patriotic and less given to emotion than most Americans are. Being more patriotic tgan most Amerucans are is quite easy. As for the emotional aspect of this, I am unable to say.

As WNU points out, we will know in a few days. Until the votes are cast and counted, we cannot "know" the outcome.

If anyone from Britain can offer any insights as to how the murder of Ms. Cox might affect the vote, I would be very interested in seeing this.
