Rio's mayor says the Olympics could be a 'big failure' due to financial crisis
Brazilian emergency responders have a message for travelers arriving to the city just ahead of the 2016 Olympics: “Welcome to hell”.
The photo, shared across social media platforms, is generating concern over whether or not Brazil is ready to host the Olympic Games - exacerbated by ongoing trouble stemming from the Zika virus plaguing the country.
“Police and firefighters don't get paid, whoever comes to Rio de Janeiro will not be safe,” the sign reads.

The people in charge of picking the host city apparently had choices of Chicago, Tokyo, and Madrid as possible alternatives. At the time, I stated ANY of the other choices would have been a vastly better choice than Rio de Janeiro.
Obviously Chicago would have had a chance as the committee is NEVER going to select an American city no matter what the terms would be. Also, Chicago has to much violent crime. Madrid might have been a decent choice. Nice climate in Spain, part of the EU, good infrastructure or at least the possibility of building such. Tokyo would have made a fine choice as the Japanese are clean, efficient, the infrastructure is first class, and the Japanese are very productive and proficient at getting things done.
Of course Brazil being a BRICS country trumps all. Look for the country that is the most anti-American in an attempt to stick it to the Americans. In this case, someone may have stuck it to themselves!! Thinking based upon such irrational things often leads to poor decision making.
In this case, whose dumber the committee who selected Brazil or the Brazilians for putting in a bid. The city of Rio de Janeiro had to know they were likely incapable of meeting the needs of such an event at the present time and were unlikely to be able to obtain the needed resources. As such, they never should have bid nor should the selection committee have taken such a bid seriously. Again, it seems rewarding a BRICS country tops all other considerations.
I actually hope it works out for them by some miracle. Athletes work their entire lives for an opportunity to compete in the Olympics and many only get one opportunity. It would be a shame for these people, their families, and friends if this fails.
