Washington Times: New low: Gallup poll says only 52% are ‘extremely proud’ to be Americans

Only 52 percent of U.S. adults say they are “extremely proud” to be Americans in the latest Gallup poll, representing a new low in the question’s 16-year trend.

As Americans prepare to celebrate Independence Day, the Gallup analysis said that the declining patriotism is “likely related to broader dissatisfaction with the way things are going in the U.S.”

“The vast majority of U.S. adults indicate they are at least moderately proud to be Americans, but as they celebrate the Fourth of July this year, fewer say they are extremely proud than at any point in the last 16 years,” said the poll’s analysis.

“Americans’ continued frustration with national conditions — likely tied to their concern about the economy and lack of faith in public institutions — is probably one reason patriotism is at a recent low point,” said the poll released Friday.

American patriotism has been on the decline since shortly after 9/11, peaking at 70 percent in 2003.

Obama has done his work well.

Maybe he is not stupid after all.

Most US Millenial's would gladly give up their citizenship for a real job, to hope to ever be free of student loans debts, to be able to get married, buy a house, raise a family, be able to afford medical care,

You know, what used to be the American dream, rather that their situation in the US, which has become the American Nightmare.

The average Millenial income in the US is $32,500 a year,

But that's the average, and as we all know, when Bill Gates walks into a bar, the law of averages say's the bar is full of Billionaires.

The median annual income of Millenials is much lower, $17,270.

I can only speak for myself, but "extremely" is the part that would make me say no to such a poll. America is better than a lot of places in a lot of ways, but it's not perfect it's frankly not as good as it supposedly used to be, and the increasing polarization of politics means everyone is embarrassed by the other side.

Someone is proud of their welfare and education system, and others are proud only going at wars or revenge wars on some disgraced country.
Not importance if that revenge is right directed.

But if more people start to see that their governments cause troubles inside and outside the country... its hard to be proud.

Someone be tempted by a "patriotic war" in order to hide internal mess.
