Reuters: Footage shows U.S. diplomat, Russian guard grappling on embassy steps
Russian television on Thursday broadcast video footage of what it said was a Russian police officer and a U.S. diplomat wrestling on the steps of the U.S. embassy in Moscow.
Reports of the incident had emerged late last month. The Washington Post newspaper, citing U.S. diplomats, said an embassy employee had been attacked on June 6 by the police officer. Russian officials said the diplomat had attacked the policeman.
The night-time footage, from what appeared to be a closed circuit television camera across the street from a side entrance into the embassy compound, showed a yellow taxi pulling up and a man jumping out of the front passenger door.

WNU Editor: I reported on this story on my World News Briefs post about a week ago. But what makes this story interesting now is that Russian media has posted a video of this assault. To say that I am surprised is an understatement. I have looked at the above video, and it looks like the embassy guard attacked the U.S. official immediately. The guard was also by himself .... which is strange because there are usually a few guards in front of these buildings. So what set this all off .... definitely not because this U.S. official refused to show his ID. This video also contradicts the Russia Foreign Office's version of the events .... that the U.S. official punched the Russian guard. What's my take .... there is more to this story than what we are being told .... something set-off this guard to do what he did. Maybe the U.S. Congress will find some answers .... The way like "diplomat" responded draws attention. Moving as an immobilized MMA fighter. It doesn't seem like a initiative of a bureaucrat, but someone with military training. Would this not be diplomat, an intelligence agent?
Good question Anon. But like I said .... my gut is telling me that there is more to this story than what they are telling us ... and that is from both sides.

I said in my commentary U.S. foreign office .... my mistake. It is the Russian foreign office that I was referring to.
Someone has been told, undiplomatically, that their movements and actions have been noticed and will no longer go un-molested.
If it was a spontaneous event or the result of a simmering personal beef, we would have seen fists fly. Mr diplomat/agent has been pinched. Who knows, maybe next time it will be a real asswhoopin'.
