U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Regrets Criticizing Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump (Update)

Bloomberg: Ginsburg Says She Regrets ‘Ill-Advised’ Comments on Trump

* She says judges should avoid discussing political candidates
* Justice had called Trump ‘a faker’ in media interview

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said she regrets criticizing Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, calling her remarks over the past week "ill-advised" and vowing to be more careful in the future.

Ginsburg had drawn rebukes for calling Trump "a faker" and saying she didn’t want to think about the possibility he might be elected. Legal-ethics experts said the comments, made in media interviews, might undermine the court’s authority. Trump had called for Ginsburg to resign.

"On reflection, my recent remarks in response to press inquiries were ill-advised and I regret making them," Ginsburg said in a statement issued by the court. "Judges should avoid commenting on a candidate for public office. In the future I will be more circumspect.”

Update #2: Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Says She Regrets Criticizing Donald Trump (WSJ)

WNU Editor: She is not the first Supreme Court Justice to make controversial remarks .... nor the last. But her comments have now tainted her in any future rulings that may involved (if he gets elected) a Trump administration .... a fact that she now realises.

Or as a Clinton appointee if Clinton is elected.

No crickets, here. I believe she is an American and a logical thinker first. Regardless of her position. If a Hitler or a Wallace or a 'fill in the blank' despot were vying to seek the top public office, it would be proper for any leader, including one expected to use caution, logic, and discretion to speak up. The lemmings and the followers sure don't. It is ultimately, more important that she speak up on behalf of the American public, that is an aspect of leadership, to speak up and be heard. Whether or not that would eventually be cause for her exclusion from the bench. That is brave, partriotic, but may not be politically advantageous. I salute her in her naivety and believe that inside she doesn't care about what the lemmings think. She cares about the health of this country. Right or wrong, just like de furor, Mr Trump. And by the way, Scalia never backed away from contorversary or conservative opinions. It is only when the liberals speak up that they get slapped down.

"It is only when the liberals speak up that they get slapped down."

Definitely not true. I remember the State of the Union Address a few years back when Justice Roberts shook his head in disagreement with President Obama and was later ridiculed by the media.

Simple American, unfortunately each side only attacks the other and rarely (if ever) attacks their own party when they are in the wrong.

Anonymous, that was Alito you were referring to at the State of the Union. Easy mistake.

But Roberts did speak out a couple days later against President Obama.

The topic was generally, SCOTUS granting a decision that, Corporation have similar rights as people I n the political process.

The Presidents comments were mentioned by the press secretary the day after the State of the Union.

What is troubling is that this decision opened the floodgates for corporations and special interests to pour money into elections -- drowning out the voices of average Americans," Gibbs said. "The president has long been committed to reducing the undue influence of special interests and their lobbyists over government. That is why he spoke out to condemn the decision and is working with Congress on a legislative response."

To the present: Donald Trump is a special interest along with his cronies, he is about creating his augmented reality, that is not leadership, that to me will be a benevolent dictator. And I use the word benovolent with extreme caution. Unless unleashing Thermonuclear war or excessive nationalism read facism is what suits your fancy. He is untested, unbridled, unwise and and not fit to be a leader or to lead 360 million people over the abyss. We are doing a fine enough job now without adding Trump to the mix.

Remove Donald Trump from your statement and insert Hillary Clinton in its place and it reads the same to me. I guess you are right to say that Trump is untested, but to turn a blind eye to the disaster that was Hillary's term as secretary of state is just laughable.
