New Europe: Drugs, negligence suicides in Ukraine army

Three Ukrainian soldiers have died in non-combat situations in the span of one day, according to the country’s military prosecutor Anatoly Matios on July 29.

Speaking to the local 112 channel, he said: “Nobody brings up the everyday non-combat losses in Ukrainian army. The reasons are social problems among the conscripts, alcohol, narcotics to a lesser degree, military hazing, negligence while using weapons and so on”.

As reported by Kyivpost online, Matios said the number of deaths totals in the thousands. He also criticised Ukraine’s inefficiency to prevent and investigate crime in the armed forces.

I have also heard that the number of non-combat deaths in the Ukraine army is in the thousands .... but no one in investigating and the Ukraine government is not interested in reporting and/or verifying these numbers (that tells me that they do not want the public to know). Another story that the Western media is ignoring is the treatment of Russian-Ukrainian citizens by the Ukraine military in the conflict zones. I have been hearing in the past year horror stories of mistreatment, beatings, rape, and murder of civilians .... but no reporting on it (or investigations) from teh Western press.

The ugly part is none of "West" or the "East" want to make any report. Too much embarrassing on each side...for opposite reason, but still.

I saw a video not to long ago that showed life on the frontline of a Ukrainian soldier. I was stunned when they did a walk through of their living quarters and righ outside the door was a massive pile of empty vodka bottles, they even joked about it as they passed by. That got me thinking that these guys must be awfully bored/lonely snd depressed to be stuck in that situation.
