Divisions In Asia On North Korea's Missile Test

VOA: North Korean Missile Tests Creating Divisions in Asia

The United Nations Security Council remains divided over how to respond to North Korea’s increasingly provocative missile tests, while Japan and South Korea continue to face opposition at home and abroad for pursuing more aggressive military policies.

The 15-member Security Council on Wednesday met at the request of Japan and the United States after North Korea launched two missiles earlier that day that landed in or very near Japanese-controlled waters.

Japan's U.N. Ambassador Koro Bessho told reporters, “It is certainly a major, major problem for the security and safety of our region."

The notion that China would rein in N Kor. has always been a pipe dream...if anything they will continue to prop them up. Japan is overdue in rebuilding it's military

This is easy. Stop doing business with China.

"This is easy. Stop doing business with China.." Actually, very respectfully, it is not "easy." The United States is heavily dependent upon "made in China." While China depends heavily on "sold to USA," the USA is more dependent on made in China than China is on sold to USA. As such, ceasing to business with them "cold turkey" is going to hurt the US more than it will China.

Mr. Trump has pointed out that this trade agreement along with others needs to be renegotiated and over regulation making it to costly to manufacture in the US needs to change. He is correct. However, it is going to take time to change the regulations, build the necessary capacity, acquire the necessary expertise to manufacture, and renegotiate the trade deals. In fact, Mr. Trump will probably not be able to complete all of this in his two terms. Completing this process will probably be up to his hand picked successor.

In the meantime, while made in China can be phased out over time, we will have to do business with China on some level for quite some time.

"Japan is overdue in rebuilding it's military." So true. I've been saying this since 1996. It pleases me that many are now finally catching on and, in fact, we have a presidential candidate of a major party now essentially advocating for this. Even better assuming this candidate loses and assuming the US can survive four years of president Clinton in the next election cycle there will be at least 6 candidates and possibly more advocating positions similar to those of Mr. Trump.

"Stop doing business with China".

Ain't gonna happen.

As for Trump,

As usual he is talking out of his ass. He'd do well to keep it up as long as he can before the Chinese own that too.

Chinese FDI in the U.S. is higher than U.S. FDI in China. It's "made in China" alright, as in the capital that flows into the U.S.
