CNN: Obama on Iran payment: 'We do not pay ransom'
Washington (CNN)President Barack Obama on Thursday dismissed suggestions a $400 million payment to Iran amounted to a ransom paid in return for the release of American hostages.
Confirming the US offered the payment in cash, Obama nevertheless downplayed the delivery's significance, saying it was not a "nefarious" deal.
And he pushed back on Republican attacks charging that the White House completed the transaction as part of the prisoner swap. The line of argument was intensified by GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump just moments before the President's comments, though he also complicated his message by referring to having seen a video of the transfer whose existence others have doubted.
Obama on Thursday sharply defended the decision to send palettes of cash to Iran, however.

Between another jihadi attack this time in London and the 400 million, Obama had to show.
Was London a jihadi attack?
Does Scotland Yard have proof that the attacker sought or received mental health treatment? Or is it that they were ordered to say "Anything but Islam" and mental health is the stock excuse?
Is the attacker Norwegian? How long did he live in Norway? Does he speak Norwegian? Did he spend more time growing up in Somalia or Norway?
When he lived in Norway did he get outside a Somali or Muslim enclave?

WASHINGTON, Nov. 7— The Bush Administration is eager to resolve financial disputes with Iran to improve relations in the post-Khomeini era and possibly pave the way for the release of American hostages in Lebanon, senior Administration officials said today.
At a news conference today, President Bush noted that Iran and the United States still owed each other money and said, ''I'd like to get this underbrush cleaned out now.''
Mr. Bush's comments came a day after American officials disclosed that Iran and the United States had worked out an arrangement by which Iran would receive $567 million from one account, a portion of the money frozen in Washington after Iranians stormed the United States Embassy in Teheran in 1979. The United States would keep the balance of the account, $243 million, as part of a larger pool of money to be used against further American claims.<<
