Reuters: Support for Germany's Merkel plunges after attacks

Popular support for Chancellor Angela Merkel has plunged according to a poll conducted after attacks in Germany, with almost two-thirds of Germans unhappy with her refugee policy.

The survey for public broadcaster ARD showed support for Merkel down 12 points from her July rating to 47 percent. This marked her second-lowest score since she was re-elected in 2013. In April last year, before the migrant crisis erupted she enjoyed backing of 75 percent.

Merkel's open-door refugee policy has come under attack from critics after five attacks in Germany since July 18 have left 15 people dead, including four assailants, and dozens injured.

Two of the attackers had links to Islamist militancy, officials say.

WNU Editor: People in Europe are waking up .... How Angela Merkel imperiled Europe's future (Damon Linker, The Week). What's my take .... If Angela Merkel did not announce to the world last year that Germany's borders were now open .... the Brexit movement would have died because the issue of open immigration would not have been an issue. The rise of nationalists movements throughout Europe would have died because they would have lost the number one issue that is helping them in the polls. Countries on the front line like Greece and Italy would not be facing the massive humanitarian crisis that they are facing today. And .... more importantly .... the thousands who have died because they wanted to flee to a better life would be alive today and staying home putting pressure on their own governments to change. Someone should remind Angela Merkel that the road to hell is always paved with good intentions .... and in her case she forgot that culture and borders are important to many Europeans and they are furious to see her pushing a multicultural agenda that many (unlike in places like Canada where I now live) cannot relate to or will ever accept.

It's as if all the major governments of the "west" have gone pathologically insane. As far as most insane I nominate the entire US Democratic party. A very distant second would have to be Angela Merkel.
