I was going to ask (WNU) what would become of the bodies. I'm guessing that would have been an ambush in waiting if they came in with choppers to try to retrieve them. So now what?

Soldier skilled in a battle by a dishonorable enemy holding them for ransom should expect that the fallen will have the proper funerary rites.

Cremation.

Since the exact site for the ceremony will not be known a wide area has to be covered.

Dishonorable enemies will turnover a new leaf, become extinct or become listed on the endangered animals list.
