VOA: Venezuela President Orders Public Worker Firings Over Referendum Call

CARACAS — President Nicolas Maduro has set a 48-hour deadline for ministers to dismiss some public workers who requested a recall referendum against him, a Socialist Party spokesman said Monday.

"They have a deadline of 48 hours," said Rodriguez.

Sacking or repressing government employees not "in tune" with the ruling party is nothing new. It's not even a trait specific to so-called socialist governments. ---This doesn't mean, however, that Maduro isn't in deep doo doo and deserves a good chunk of the blame for it.----

Canadians (the 5% that pay attention) remember well how the Conservatives under Harper went after government scientists who didn't toe the line on their policies.

I'll bet that the public workers that signed the petition are the ones who know how to do and actually do the work. Firing them may only make the problems worse.
