VOA: Venezuela President Orders Public Worker Firings Over Referendum Call

CARACAS — President Nicolas Maduro has set a 48-hour deadline for ministers to dismiss some public workers who requested a recall referendum against him, a Socialist Party spokesman said Monday.

Sacking or repressing government employees not "in tune" with the ruling party is nothing new. It's not even a trait specific to so-called socialist governments. ---This doesn't mean, however, that Maduro isn't in deep doo doo and deserves a good chunk of the blame for it.----

Canadians (the 5% that pay attention) remember well how the Conservatives under Harper went after government scientists who didn't toe the line on their policies.
