Why Are There Are No Successful Black Nations?

Chogozie Obioma, Foreign Policy: There Are No Successful Black Nations

And the indignity and helplessness of blacks in America won’t end until we have a first-world African nation to lift up our people.

In the wake of fresh deaths at the hands of police officers in the world’s greatest nation, we, the people of the black race, are once again the object of renewed worldwide attention.

Questions of injustice in the United States have been duly raised and protested. And, once again, the black cultural elites in America have seized various platforms to air their grievances and are mostly — and rightly — talking about racism, discrimination, racial profiling, and hate, among other issues. But one issue that has hardly been talked about is the core reason why black people have remained synonymous with the denigrating experience of racism. It is, I dare say, because of the worldwide indignity of the black race.

To the WNU editor. Respectfully, I just don't see it happening.

Tribalism, "Big man politics", corruption and never ending foreign meddling/exploitation has held Africa back. Whether we liked them or not (and for the Africans I know who have benefited from their initiatives, our opinion matters not) people such as the late Thomas Sankara and Muammar Qaddafi had a vision of a united Africa in full control of its resources, government, military and infrastructure.

These leaders were murdered with the backing of "the west" and their projects, such as the AU, or the meeting places of Sirte were ignored, usurped, marginalized or destroyed. Despite these setbacks, Africa will not develop along the model dictated by "the west" and African "democracy" as it will be practiced (if at all) will be nearly unrecognizable to "us". But develop she will.

If there is anything that can be said of Africans or those of African decent, they are survivors... and they never forget. On that score, they give even the Slavs a big run for their money.

Pan Africanism is absurd most especially to those interested in keeping people divided by ruling or exploiting them. Truth be known, the idea of a united Africa came out in large part due to the exploitation and denigration of Africans by others. It is as much about defence through unity as it is about economic opportunity and for more and more Africans it will be seen as necessary for their survival.

A shared ethnicity is not a pre-requisite for nationhood. See: Russia.

Not in 5 generations

I look at Russia, RRH, and I see a nation that is bound together by a core majority ethnic group, with others as satellites around it. Remove the Russians (as an ethnic group defined by common culture) and there is no Russia. There is no equivalent "imperial nation" that could bring together all of Africa like that; no Black Russians. Except perhaps for Arabs.

Africa and other black nations need more than time to rise to dignity.

They need their Renaissance and their Risorgimento.

I have said that "Africa will catch-up .... they just need time." in the past.
I reason that the Sahara and "The Sudd" blocked trade and ideals and thus progress.

Europe was connected to the middle east via the Mediterranean Sea, Spain, Sicily and turkey

Europe was connected to China via a sea!

I don't know.

There is a difference in a few parameters.

Not only are there no successful black-run nations, there are no successful black-run cities, anywhere on the planet. What is the single common denominator in all of this failure? Black people. Isn't it obvious?

Jamaica is a successful, stable, friendly nation by any definition.
