China And Russia Will Start Their Naval Drill In The South China Sea This Monday



CRI English: China, Russia naval drill begins Monday

Eight days of naval drills between China and Russia are getting underway today in the South China Sea.

The exercises come on the heels of Russian President Vladimir Putin's recent move to publically back China's stand in the South China Sea.

The Chinese navy's spokesperson Liang Yang says the "Joint Sea-2016" exercise includes surface ships, submarines, fixed-wing aircraft, ship-borne helicopters and marines from both sides.

"Chinese and Russian participants will undertake defense, rescue, and anti-submarine operations, in addition to joint island seizing and other activities."
