Politico: Trump calls Afghanistan safer than America's inner cities

Americans could be in more danger walking through America's inner cities than in war-plagued countries, Donald Trump suggested on Monday.

Speaking at a campaign event in Asheville, North Carolina, the Republican presidential nominee slammed the state of the country's inner cities under “a hundred years straight” of Democratic control, promising a “new agenda” under a Trump administration.

“The Democratic Party has run the inner cities for 50, 60, 70 years and even a hundred years straight,” he said. “We are on a mission of change. That includes a new agenda."

Update: Afghanistan safer than some US inner cities – Trump (RT)

In a way, he's not lying.

I've visited both and,

Whether I were working for NATO oe not, If I popped someone in self defence in Kandahar province at least I wouldn't have to hear a lot of noise about how much THEIR life mattered.

SSDD,

>>McCain recently claimed that there “are neighborhoods in Baghdad where you and I could walk through those neighborhoods, today.” In a press conference after his Baghdad tour, McCain told a reporter that his visit to the market today was proof that you could indeed “walk freely” in some areas of Baghdad.<<

Feeding the US Public BS is standard "mushroom tactics",

>>
NBC’s Nightly News provided further details about McCain’s one-hour guided tour. He was accompanied by “100 American soldiers, with three Blackhawk helicopters, and two Apache gunships overhead.” Still photographs provided by the military to NBC News seemed to show McCain wearing a bulletproof vest during his visit.<<

We have not seen the kind of danger (suicide bombings, artillery, well organized light infantry raids) in U.S. cities that we have in Afghanistan. This being said, being in the that country never made me wish I were in Detroit's east side after dark with a flat tire instead.

Trump's exaggerations are typical of the side he represents but there is a tinge of truth to what he's saying. Some of America's cites are very dangerous with sections, such as those in Detroit, with very little or no law enforcement, public services or utilities. Of course Trumpites won't accept responsibility for the role policies they wish there were more of played in the disaster that is Detroit (or Afghanistan), but that knowlege doesn't make either any safer.

Never felt unsafe in US inner cities, SF's Tenderloin, SD's Chula Vista, Milwaukee's North Street, Boston's Dorchester, Harlem, San Antonio's Westcreek,

Picked up half a dozen bullet holes in the truck driving I-95 with BC plates, learned not to step off the road in Rogue River country, made sure the Corporation put me up in a downtown hotel, not the Company Condo in Brown Deer during deer season, as it tended to collect stray bullets.

Started a Corporate trend of The Friday Night Jazz crawl. 8 different bars, 8 different kinds of jazz, at each place, ( other than the Front), we were the only "non-locals", and after the initial stares, had a great time. As we geared up to go to the next bar, the local's always warned us, don't go there, you will get stabbed.

470 Jazz Crawls, 58 different bars, 564 bands, 0 stabbings, 0 shootings, 0 car thefts, 0 pettycrimes.

Meanwhile, back in Brown Deer, a "middle class" suburb, theCorp had to take out special insurance on the rental cars, due to vandism and break in's.

As I kid we used to visit my Great Aunt who lived in E. Detroit (East of Woodward). The big trick back then was for guy to lay in the street so someone would stop and then they could be robbed, carjacked etc. I know of one who was run over.

Mom moved over there for a bit. She came home. Too much gun play. The last straw was when the next door neighbour confronted home invaders with a shot gun. Thing was, it didn't stay in the house. They ran down the alley, he came after them blasting away. This was in the late afternoon.

Both instances above were 20+ years ago. It was bad then.

It's much worse now with whole sections of the city where police don't or won't patrol. My sister recently moved back to Canada after her fiancée's best friend was shot dead walking home from the bus stop. It was one of those frequent "caught in the crossfire" shootings.

I was in Milwaukee for same training just before last Christmas, North Lovers Lane/Florist Highlands. Nothing happened but I can 't say I felt "safe" and didn't join the boys for evening entertainment. They had trouble; but you'll find it anywhere if you go looking.

Again, though,

There are no rocket or mortar attacks, IEDs, VBIEDs, minefields, "friendly fire" incidents or suicide bombers spreading their entrails/genitals all over creation but for someone who doesn't know any better (Like Trump or a lot of his followers), some U.S. inner cities -even some smaller locales as you mentioned- are pretty damn bad and have earned their reps. When I'm in them, or near them, I'm definitely "on my Grizzly".

BTW, Toronto's Malvern isn't what I'd call "civilian friendly" either.

Walked home from the Smiling Bhudda, to the north east end of the Downtown East Side, God knows how many times.

Worst case, doing CPR on an od'ing hooker, or a meth head with a knife, screaming on how everybody out there was out to get her.

Sure beats Bhagdad 2004.
