Reuters: Top CIA analyst sees likely Putin re-election bid
Russian President Vladimir Putin is likely to run for re-election in 2018 and may impose tougher authoritarian rule to curb unrest over the slumping economy, the CIA’s top Russia analyst said on Tuesday.
The rare public comments by Peter Clement, head of the CIA unit that watches Russia, shed light on how some senior U.S. intelligence officials view Putin and where he is taking his country as he prepares an expected run for a fourth presidential term in 2018.
Most intelligence analysts think Putin will run again, as he indicated three years ago, said Clement.“But he’s got to be thinking now, ‘What happens between now and 2018?’”

WNU editor: This CIA analyst is correct on his assessment that security and the economy are Putin's major concerns .... and that the Russian government is counting their nickels and dimes. Case in point .... all of my business contacts, friends, and family members in Russia are not happy about this .... Russian Duma speaker believes giving up flat tax rate may be considered (TASS). As to Putin running for re-election .... he is definitely thinking about it, but he is also thinking about stepping aside for someone else. My prediction ... if he runs this will be his last election.

In other news, "the sun will rise in the east and set in the west, tomorrow, the next day, the next day, and so on." The fact that Putin is running for reelection in 2018 and will win in 2018 is rather obvious to all or at least should be. I've long since figured this one out by reading this blog, a couple of other blogs, and following several news sources.
Do we really need a "top CIA analyst" to tell us such tings?!!? Are they really being paid such high salaries to figure out thing that are this obvious?!!? Are they really that stupid as to think they've figured out something so profound they need to announce it?!!? This is like figuring out 2 + 2 = 4 and holding press conference to announce it expecting people to think one has figured out something profound. If one did not know such things and learned them, they generally would not hold an announcement that they determined such things as they would immediately grasp everyone else knows this.
The term "to stupid to know one is stupid" comes to mind. This applies to pretty much all pre teen boys and to CIA analysts. I've long suspected these are a combination of incompetent boobs, political hacks, and ideologically blind individuals. Things such as this provide additional evidence for this theory.
I agree this will likely be his "last" election. His successor will be the person he hand picks and that person's successor will be the person that they hand pick. In other words, Mr. Putin's stamp on Russian policy will last for a very, very long time and will likely be playing a profound role in Russian thought and politics long after the United States has ceased to exist.
