US And Russia Reach A Tentative Ceasefire Deal On Syria

New York Times: Russia and the United States Reach New Agreement on Syria Conflict

GENEVA — Russia and the United States agreed early Saturday on a new plan to reduce violence in the Syrian conflict that, if successful, could lead for the first time to joint military targeting by the two powers against Islamic jihadists in Syria.

The agreement was reached after 10 months of failed attempts to halt the fighting and of suspended efforts to reach a political settlement to an increasingly complex conflict that began more than five years ago.

The conflict has left nearly half a million people dead, created the largest refugee crisis since World War II and turned Syria into a prime incubator of recruiting for the Islamic State and the Nusra Front, an affiliate of Al Qaeda.

Very little mention of the Kurds or Turkey. In essence this might be just a cover for the US to punch it's departure ticket from the area. The waiting period may also be there to see if the US can get it's act together for a Mosul offensive ASAP.

An addendum:
If the UN and the world think there is a humanitarian crisis in Aleppo now, just wait till Assad's security apparatus enters the city. Also just how do they think the humanitarian aid is to be delivered? The aid delivery will be riddled with Assad's security people making notes. Aleppo is doomed, Assad will make an example of it the way his father did of Homs.

I agree James that the Mukhabarat will clean house when the opportunity arises. We may differ, however, on whether to support the Baath or not.

As for Hafez,

If Bashar were like the old man, this situation would not have come to the point it has. We can bet that he'll take heed of his dead father's example when the "rebellion" is crushed.

Like my Syrian friend tells me:

"When this is over, nobody gonna say shit."

RRH,
To tell you the truth, I support none of them. I just try to see it as it is as well as I can excluding any ideological coloring, especially my own.
"If Bashar were like the old man, this situation would not have come to the point it has" Truthfully, I don't know. There are so many things different now than then.

RRH questioned whether James supported the baath?

Good God, what a thought to think.

James is no Pelosi or Kerry.

I do not see how ISIS can exist across great swaths of Iraq and Syria with the Turkish pipeline shutdown (?).

I do not see ISIS holding 60% of the territory it does now in 5 years.

Maybe not even 40%.

Part of Syria will be a bombing range and proving grounds for the Russian, Iranians and Hezbollah for the next 5 or 10 years. That is worrisome.

The Germans trained in the Soviet union in the 1920s. Looked how that turned out.

I don't care how cozy turkey and Moscow have gotten. Russia and most of all Assad didn't want turkey taking one step inside Syria. The us only green lighted the turks in order to gain leverage on ybe ongoing cease fire/ military coop negotiations... -Becool

Thank you Aizino for your comments. I do though think that RRH's supposition wasn't all far out of line. I did try to clarify the issue above. You are right, I am in no uncertain terms a Kerry or Pelosi.
