Real Clear Politics: Trump Concedes Obama Was Born in the U.S.

After years of leading the charge in questioning Barack Obama’s birthplace, Donald Trump acknowledged Friday that the president was in fact born in the United States.

The GOP nominee aimed to put to rest the issue he raised -- and one that thrust him into the national political scene -- by falsely accusing Hillary Clinton of being the instigator. But Trump’s change of course instead puts the controversy front and center after a week intended to seize momentum in the presidential campaign, and it raises more questions about how he reached his conclusion, why he continued to promote birther theories as recently as last winter, and whether he would apologize to the president.
