Is Oman Helping Iran To Smuggle Weapons To Yemen's Houthi Rebels?

A cache of weapons, displayed on the warship USS Gravely's deck, was seized from a stateless ship intercepted in the Arabian Sea by the USS Sirocco coastal patrol in March.

Reuters: Exclusive: Iran steps up weapons supply to Yemen's Houthis via Oman - officials

Iran has stepped up weapons transfers to the Houthis, the militia fighting the Saudi-backed government in Yemen, U.S., Western and Iranian officials tell Reuters, a development that threatens to prolong and intensify the 19-month-old war.

The increased pace of transfers in recent months, which officials said include missiles and small arms, could exacerbate a security headache for the United States, which last week struck Houthi targets with cruise missiles in retaliation for failed missile attacks on a U.S. Navy destroyer.

Much of the recent smuggling activity has been through Oman, which neighbors Yemen, including via overland routes that take advantage of porous borders between the two countries, the officials said.

Oman's a Sunni Kingdom, so much for that Shia Crescent BS.

>>Brian Whitaker has rightly expressed skepticism about this Reuters story about Iranian arming of Huthis. But the funny part is that the method of documentation reminds me of the methods of Nicholas Blanford (the hagiographer of Rafiq Hariri) when he writes about Hizbullah and cites unnamed member of the party who basically tell him: yes, we are terrorists. Yes, we deserve to be bombed. Yes, Israel should take us out. Yes, everything that Israel says about it is true--and they exclusively tell him all that using name like "Abu Potato". Similarly, this report from Reuters cites an Iranian diplomat: so the Iranian diplomat exclusively told Reuters that "yes, we are terrible and we are violating international norms by smuggling weapons into Yemen. But then again: we remember when Saudi regime complained about a Reuters correspondent, and then Reuters management simply relocated that correspondent because he was too knowledgeable and asked too many questions.<<

Most Omanis are Ibadi, which is an offshoot of Khawarij. They are not 100% orthodox Sunni.

Oman could be allowing Iran to transit weapons due to differences with Sunnis (not likely), intimidation or bribes.

Persia used to own Oman and Yemen. the Iranians are could unsubtlyremind the Omani King of this fact.

The supply line does not make sense geographically. Maybe the Saudis cannot see much in and around the Empty quarter?

Historically Yemen supplied arms to Oman separatists. Maybe the Oman is are engaging in a little payback. They longer Yemen keeps fighting the weaker it is and Oman is left alone or can take adjacent Yemeni provinces.

So much for Jabber Jay

Oman's the only GCC State that opted out of the US/Saudi War on Yemen, despite being as reliant as Bahrain is on the Saudi's for National and Internal Security.

Persia hasn't ruled in Oman since 1749 AD. Might as well blame the Portugese or the Brits.

LMAO at the major flail by the Deplorable.

Maybe Oman's called it quits on backing the Saudi Terror Machine, ( remember 9/11?, or are you an Alex Jones afficanado who believes the US Red Cross did it),

And as Saudi Arabia is collapsing financially, has lost control of OPEC and oil pricing, and is bogged down in 3 dead end wars, ( Yemen, al Quida in Syria and ISIS in Iraq and Syria),

Has decided to opt out of the Whabbist Terror Chain?

They are the one US Sunnis Ally in the ME that doesn't support Islamic Terrorism, officially or unofficially. All the other's do.
