Sputnik: Russia Believes Syrian Conflict Has No Military Solution

Russia is firmly convinced that there is no military solution to the Syrian conflict and is ready to cooperate with the United States and other Western countries on the crisis settlement, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov said on Tuesday.

BEIJING (Sputnik) — On October 3, US State Department deputy spokesman John Kirby announced that Washington was cutting off participation in bilateral channels with Russia on sustaining a ceasefire agreement in Syria.

"It is our firm belief that there is no military solution to the Syrian conflict. It is necessary to give up all political ambitions and sit down at the negotiating table. The sooner Washington realizes that international terrorism cannot be defeated without Russia's help, the sooner the international community wins. We are ready for such work with our US and other Western counterparts," Antonov told a press conference in Beijing.

Russia firmly believes there is no military solution to a conflict they are militarily involved in. Obviously just a piece of disinformation to make the US look bad, but still ironic.

WNU Editor,

I respectfully disagree with the assertion that there is no military solution to the Syrian civil war.

To the contrary, there is a solution: one side kills all the opponent's fighters and, if necessary, the civilian population supporting them. From a Western perspective, such a solution is unthinkable, because killing on that magnitude is not possible as a policy for a Western Government at this point.

I submit that Assad, Hezbollah, Iran, and the Russians are not constrained by such ethical considerations. All the factions fighting in Syria are striving for military victory. The difference is that, in combination, the Assad/Hezbollah/Iranian/Russian coalition is stronger than the combination of the factions opposing them.

As long as the US and it's allies keep flooding Syria with arms, money and imported jihadi's, to topple Assad, those jihadi's will continue to join ISIS and al Quida.

There is no military solution to that, too many smuggling routes, too many willing jihadi's.

The Syrian War has an end.

It is called unconditional surrender or die.

There is no slack. The end will come quickly.
