Military.com: 'Intense' US Bombing in Mosul Meant Strike Every 8 Minutes

During the opening three days of the Mosul offensive, U.S.-led airstrikes rattled the city at a rate of one bomb every eight minutes, an official said.

The sheer volume of strikes sets the operation apart from others in the ongoing campaign against militants affiliated with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, according to Col. Daniel Manning, the deputy director of the Combined Air Operations Center.

"It's a pretty intense bombing campaign if you think about each of these bombs are precision-guided weapons … so it's a really high rate to be concentrated over one city over a prolonged period of time," Manning told Military.com in a telephone interview Friday.

The bomb may be precision guided. The blast radius and effects, not so much.

As to how effective these weapons are, it would depend upon how reliable the intelligence is on enemy locations. I have little to no confidence in the incompetent boobs who carry out US intelligence operations to supply useful information. Perhaps US military personnel are receiving information on the positions of the enemy from militia forces, the Kurds, or Iraqis on the ground in the city.

I have been in the middle of such a bombing, in Baghdad 1991. Watching us forces Using b52's at the time to carpet bomb certain areas, and smart bombs on specific sites. It was amazing and frightening. Kill Daesh!
