Is The Democrat Party Facing A Grassroots Revolt?

The Hill: Seething liberals vow revolution in Democratic Party

The Republican civil war was supposed to start this week.

Instead, a ferocious struggle has erupted on the left over the smoldering remains of the Democratic Party.

Liberals are seething over the election and talking about launching a Tea Party-style revolt. They say it’s the only way to keep Washington Democrats connected to the grassroots and to avoid a repeat of the 2016 electoral disaster, which blindsided party elites.

Progressives believe the Democratic establishment is responsible for inflicting Donald Trump upon the nation, blaming a staid corporate wing of the party for nominating Hillary Clinton and ignoring the Working Class voters that propelled Trump to victory.

WNU Editor: In the past year I have been focusing and posting news reports on the growing revolt among the grassroots in the Republican Party, and why they were supporting Donald Trump. In this time I should have also asked the following question .... what would happen to the Democrat Party if Hillary Clinton lost the election? It has happened .... and it looks like it is going to get ugly. And if President Obama stays out of and this debate .... the power vacuum that it will create is going to result in a struggle for the heart and soul of the Democrat Party that we have not seen for a long time. I personally think this will be a good thing .... it is long overdue, and the Democrats need to look at their base, what they want, and to then make their case to the American people.

it seems the base may have changed for both parties. White working class used to be Dems; now Trump. We may be in the midst of changes of this sort, and we also have changing demographics, with increasing non whites and Hispanics and Asians...and, too, college educated and non college educated. These are fun times if such changes give you things to think on.

Fred is right. It definitely is some wacky fun.

The interesting thing about the non-white vote is that Donald Trump received more of this vote (30%) than Mitt Romney (20%), and that half of the Hispanic population who are legal citizens want controls at the border (I guess the new arrivals are putting pressure on their jobs). Demographics may not favor the Democrats as much as conventional thinking may like to believe it is.

What's going to happen is they'll double down by taking a hard left. With the next election, they'll have more candidates like Bernie and Elizabeth Warren. Sure, this may energize their base and even bring in some younger voters, but these policies will scare away many moderates.

Also, these people still haven't learned to change their rhetoric. I've lost track of how many Democrats I've seen on TV say they lost because "all the racist, bigoted, gay bashing, Muslim hating white men" voted for Trump. This attitude is one of the main things that convinced me to leave the party in '08 (the rhetoric has gotten much worse since then). And before any of you Democrats on here says, "Well Trump always says dumb sh*t that offends people." Yea, I know he says dumb stuff all the time, but the Republicans in general don't...they actually try to distance themselves from people that attack groups of voters (see all the Repubs that attacked Trump for example). Democrats on the other hand are constantly bashing opposition voters....for years now....the more they do this, the less likely Republicans, Republican leaners, and moderates are to cross the aisle and vote Democrat.

Fred, agree 100% with what you said above. I think the base will change much more over the next four years as well...especially if the republicans follow through with Trump's promise to rebuild the inner cities.
