Russian President Putin: 'U.S. President-Elect Donald Trump Confirmed To Him He Was Willing To Mend Ties'

Reuters: Russian President Putin says Trump confirmed willing to mend ties

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Sunday U.S. President-elect Donald Trump confirmed to him he was willing to mend ties, though he also said he would welcome President Barack Obama in Russia.

The author of this article even though ut appears inadvertent makes the case for ending sanctions against Russia. These sanctions have galvanized Putin's hold on power, enabled him to sell the US as a "foreign devil" to Russians, and ensured Russia does not make any necessary changes to it's economic system that might be necessary. After all it's all the fault of the "foreign devil." Eliminating US sanctions especially by a brand new US Administration cuts the legs out from under such messaging to a large degree.

Additionally we need Russian assistance in a number of areas. Without a lifting of US sanctions such assistance is likely impossible.

The author mistakenly assumes that if US sanctions are lifted that the Europeans are automatically going to follow suit. Even if American sanctions were to be lifted tomorrow European sanctions will remain. They do not follow America's lead.

Eventually all sanctions will be lifted anyway. They cannot be maintained. Implemting them in the first place was one of the stupidest decisions ever made. When one is in a hole, the best thing to do is to STOP DIGGING!! Lift US sanctions immediately against Russia and do all we can to undermine the sanctions others have imposed on Russia.
