WIll President-Elect Trump Fire The Top Generals In The Pentagon When He Assumes The Office?

Josh Rogin, Washington Post: Will Trump really purge Obama’s generals?

Throughout his campaign, Donald Trump promised to quickly get rid of the top level of senior military officers serving in uniform. But if Trump actually follows through on his plan to purge President Obama’s generals as his first order of business, he could provoke a crisis in civil-military relations at the very beginning of his presidency.

Last year, Trump claimed to more know than the generals on the ground about how to fight the Islamic State. In September, during a Commander in Chief Forum, he said the generals during the Obama administration had been “reduced to rubble” and that if he were elected, he would convene his top generals within 30 days of taking office to provide him with a new plan, but “they’ll probably be different generals.”

Traditionally, presidents have felt free to appoint three- and four-star generals they are comfortable with, but they wait until those officers’ terms in their posts expire. Also, presidents don’t typically interfere in the selection of generals at the lower, one- and two-star levels. What Trump is proposing, an immediate and thorough housecleaning, could provoke pushback from the military and accusations of political interference from the public.

WNU Editor: Someone wants this story out .... I just do not know if it is the Trump team ..... or the Pentagon. As to what is my take .... the Pentagon "rebelled" in September when an agreement was reached between the U.S. and Russia on coordinating military actions in Syria .... Is President Obama Facing A 'Mutiny' At The Pentagon? (September 23, 2016) .... a deep White House - Pentagon disagreement that ended with U.S.Air Force planes bombing Syrian government positions thereby effectively ending the truce and any hope of U.S. - Russian cooperation. There has never been an adequate explanation from the Pentagon on why this bombing took place and no push from the Obama White House for such an explanation .... but the impact has been clear .... a massive escalation in the war. From this act alone these Generals have to be held accountable .... and if it means firing a few of them .... so be it.

Trump has already begun to renew on a lot of promises he's been making, such as him reaching an out of settlement involving the class action lawsuit against Trump University, despite Trump emphasizing and stating many times he would never reach a settlement, not even when he would be president.

This is simply the president-elect coming to terms with the harsh realities of office. One has to wonder, what other 'promises' will be broken or compromised on.

Obama fired almost 1000 senior Officers, and they were replaced with people that would tow his line, I suspect Trump will have to get rid of many of these. I would bet every department in the US Govt will be purged at the senior level. In order to make changes firings will have to be done.

He is probably going to get rid of political generals and admirals such as Kirby from the State Department was. The Navy and Air Force are political branches and have gone full SJW. He will clean house of the most political leaders.
