The USAF has already telegraphed through the use of the term "non-permissive" airspace that the "contest" will be rigged in the F-35's favour.
Tellingly, the test takes place in 2018, when the A-10's "legislative save", expires.
Nope, Jay. Trump has already made noise about the F-35 high costs. With the previous Obama admin, there's be no question of the ax coming down on the A-10. With Mattis as SECDEF, it ain't gonna happen. Expect more A-10 air frames to receive SLEP mods in the years to come.
And yes, designate them for an army fixed-wing aviation branch. Or even better, assign them to the Marines.
