A Look At President Trump's Proposed Defense Budget

Will Edwards, Cipher Brief: Sizing Up the Trump Defense Budget

President Donald Trump’s defense budget proposal for fiscal year 2018 calls for $54 billion in additional spending, but it is not yet clear where this new funding will come from or what it will be used for. The proposed increase builds on spending hikes planned by the outgoing Obama administration, but it is publicly unpopular. In a recent poll, 58 percent of Americans said they opposed the increase. The size and complexity of the defense budget makes it a lightning rod for disagreements, which can ultimately work against the goal of providing a first-class military with global reach.

WNU Editor: I am not surprised that 58 percent of Americans say they oppose the increase .... if I was an American, I would oppose it too. The reason for this opposition is simple .... no one has made the case on why the Pentagon budget should be increased. Make the case by outlining what are the national security concerns of the United States ..... what is needed .... what it would cost .... have the debate .... and if you do it right, the people will support you.

We are currently experiencing rapid growth of military tech. Within the next 10 years I predict the emergence of new high-tech military software/hardware that will make a lot of systems redundant. New and improved deadly drones. Enhanced carrier ship-killer missiles that could make current carrier tech redundant or impractical vs risk.

The F35 continues to be a drain on the budgets and is an utter complete disaster that the military refuses to acknowledge.

What if such a budget increase gave rise to future F35's in the form of navy ships? It's already happening...

Trump wants an increase without any real plan for the future or and there's no discussion why that increase should happen.
