Newsweek: FBI Director James Comey Tried To Reveal Russian Tampering Months Before Election
FBI Director James Comey attempted to go public as early as the summer of 2016 with information on Russia’s campaign to influence the U.S. presidential election, but Obama administration officials blocked him from doing so, two sources with knowledge of the matter tell Newsweek.
Well before the Department of Homeland Security and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence accused the Russian government of tampering with the U.S. election in an October 7 statement, Comey pitched the idea of writing an op-ed about the Russian campaign during a meeting in the White House Situation Room in June or July.
“He had a draft of it or an outline. He held up a piece of paper in a meeting and said, ‘I want to go forward. What do people think of this?’” says a source with knowledge of the meeting, which included Secretary of State John Kerry, Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Department of Homeland Security secretary Jeh Johnson and the national security adviser Susan Rice.

This story needs to be cleared up, but the only people who can clear it up are those who were at the meeting .... FBI Director Comey, Secretary of State John Kerry, Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Department of Homeland Security secretary Jeh Johnson and the national security adviser Susan Rice. Unfortunately .... none of them are talking .... unless they are the anonymous source .... and I include the FBI Director in that mix.
Update: Not surprised that both Democrats and Republicans are becoming very upset with the FBI Director .... New FBI official at the center of the storm (The Hill).
.... The ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee had accused the FBI of withholding critical information from an investigation. Some Democrats had called for FBI Director James Comey to resign. And in one dramatic moment behind closed doors, frustrated lawmakers shouted at Comey in anger.

I knew I remembered the name, and I only had to travel a little more than two weeks into Wayback Machine to refresh my recollection."
Jay. I personally thought it was Ezra Cohen-Watnick' boss .... National Security Adviser Army Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster .... who opened the door to Nunes on what they were discovering in the previous administration files on surveillance and the monitoring of political opponents. For all we know .... he (Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster) may still be the one who signed off on this. Our only hope is that this intel will eventually be declassified .... or someone leaks it. My money is on the White House leaking it when it is convenient for them to do so in the future.
