Is Hawaii In The Cross-Hairs Of North Korea?

Reuters

Washington Free Beacon: North Korea Could Soon Launch Attack on Hawaii

Experts call for immediate upgrade in state's missile defenses.

North Korea could soon have the capacity to launch an attack on Hawaii that would devastate America's Pacific military bases, accelerating the need for the United States to upgrade missile defenses in the area.

The United States today relies on ground-based ballistic missile interceptors deployed in California and Alaska to protect Hawaii, but these defenses would do little to guard U.S. territory in the Pacific against a North Korean intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), which officials believe is nearing completion.

The U.S. Missile Defense Agency in February test fired a new SM-3 Block IIA missile from Hawaii that successfully intercepted an incoming ballistic missile, but the Pentagon does not maintain a permanent missile defense installation or detection capabilities on the Hawaiian Islands.

"...all of North Korea is the crosshairs." If there is a shooting war between the Koreas and America is involved, China and Russia are going to intervene on behalf of the North. In this case all of America as well will be in the crosshairs. Even without a military response from Russia and China as a result of this I'm pretty sure North Korea already has agents operating in America who can and likely will do much damage. At leas this should be he working assumption.

No laughing matter. Of course someone whose country is not going to be affected and whose loved ones aren't facing danger can afford to laugh.

I will reiterate what I've said elsewhere. We shouldn't even be involved in this. Alas, we are. We've allowed our people to be sued as pawns in someone else's power struggle now we've been sucked in with no real way out that I can see.

South Korea could arm itself with nuclear weapons. This would give China and North Korea something to think about that they currently don't need to think about. South Korea would likely be expected to use it's arsenal if it needed to in order to defend itself or inflict harm on the north. It is questionable at best that America will use it's nuclear deterrent when it knows it will be facing major reprisals from Russia and China should it do so on behalf of South Korea against their ally. Furthermore American leaders may not be willing to throw away the lives of 10s of millions of our citizens for a country across the world who generally holds them in contempt the way South Korea does.

The Die-Hards in Russia already tried to start a World War.

1) They used a type of Russian sub that of which most of the class had been sold to China.

2) They used Chinese uranium. the uranium was part of the raw material that the Chinese had traded to the Russians for help in industrializing.

The Chinese to this day believe the got the worse end of that deal.

Just think what would happen if they believed a faction within the CCCP had plotted to get the Chinese and Americans involved in a nuclear exchange.

Maybe more American secrets need to be declassified or leaked.

The Chinese may not want American troops in a unified Korea, but they sure as hell do not want to share Korea with the Russians.

Korea has always been considered by the Chinese to be in their sphere of influence.

and when the Chinese are good (& they have been good at times), they will actually bleed for countries like Vietnam (in the 19th century) & Korea (against the Japanese) and/or their sphere of influence.

Wow B Poster paints the South Koreans with the same brush as the Japanese. I wonder if he gets out much or how much he is paid.

Poor blighter.

Aizino,

Thank you for the information on Russian/Chinese interactions and tensions. You seem to suggest it may be possible to get China to turn on Russis. Perhaps it is possible. You aren't the first to suggest it. Very respectfully right now I don't think it's likely.

In the last two paragraphs I'm not sure to what you are referring. No one in the part of the world likes us. As paens in their power struggles, we pretty much aren't respected. In any event, we really shouldn't be involved but seem to have no good way out righr now. With the litany of problems America faces, expending precious limited resources in South Korea doesn't seem a good use of them.

B Poster,

"No one in the part of the world likes us."

With grammar like that, I think your handlers will shoot you and make your family pay for the bullet.

You really ought to turn over a new leaf and then escape before your superiors go vader on you.

When I was young I remember watching multiple presidents, upon first month or two, in public speech stating they/we would protect South Korea with the use of a nuclear bomb. I had always thought this strange and unprovoked (not familiar with politics then). I have searched web for said statements for over a year and find nothing on it, only current events. Maybe I have been using wrong search phrases,I dunno. Now I see well learned people here and maybe with your help can clear this up for me. Did I truly watch that and now it's hidden or did I have multiple dimensional experience.
