Russia's Foreign Minister Calls The Current Political Climate In The U.S. A Return To McCarthyism

RT: ‘Like McCarthyism’: Lavrov slams US ‘witch hunt-like’ scrutiny of Russian ambassador’s contacts

With Russian Ambassador to the USA Sergey Kislyak’s contacts with members of the Trump administration under scrutiny, Moscow won’t apply a tit-for-tat approach to US Ambassador to Russia John Tefft, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov promised.

Lavrov said the whole situation resembled the days of McCarthyism.

Kislyak recently found himself under the US media spotlight with reports of his communications, first with former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn and then with Attorney-General Jeff Sessions.

WNU Editor: Russian pundits on TV and radio are even more brutal in their comments .... they see a silent coup being instigated by the Democrats, their progressive allies, and anti-Trump Republicans to de-legitimise President Trump that would eventually lead to his impeachment. My take is more diplomatic .... this is bare-knuckle Washington politics where one side has not (and will not) accept President Trump as their President, and they are doing everything in their power to get rid of him. As to how this will impact U.S. - Russian relations .... I see it already .... U.S. - Russian diplomatic relations are now frozen, and this is very dangerous in view of the conflicts that are now occurring in Ukraine, the Middle East, and elsewhere. Diplomacy is the art where diplomats and officials meet to discuss issues that concerns their respective countries ... and where confidentiality and privacy are paramount. This has now been blown out of the water .... with demands from those who oppose President Trump to know who in his staff met Russian officials, what was discussed, the when and where these meetings occurred, and .... more importantly .... how President Trump can be tied to all of this.

WNU,
Didn't think I'd live long enough to see a Russian FM to level a charge of McCarthyism.

James,

I never thought I'd live to see this day either. Furthermore I never thought I'd live to see the day where the Russian positions are inherently reasonable ones while it is the American side that is taking unreasonable positions while all while making wild and reckless allegations.

Well... I called it.

Only other day I left a comment on one of the posts here about how this is all a throwback to the McCarthy era.

Plowman,
You've hitting them on the head lately.

Yes indeed. Plowman did call this one correctly.

the analogy is not quite correct. And unless Russia wants to hurt President Trump more, they should just refrain from comment.
