The U.S. Will Wart China To Constrain North Korea

New York Times: U.S. May Soon Increase Pressure on China to Constrain North Korea

WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will warn China’s leaders that the United States is prepared to step up missile defenses and pressure on Chinese financial institutions if they fail to use their influence to restrain North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs, according to several officials involved in planning his first mission to Asia.

China has complained vociferously about the Trump administration’s recent decision to speed up the deployment of the Thaad antimissile system in South Korea, charging that it will undermine regional stability.

But the Trump administration’s message is that the United States has run out of time to respond to North Korea’s military advances, and that the party the Chinese needs to complain to is in Pyongyang.

One senior administration official involved in the planning called it “responsible” to increase the defenses of the United States and its allies against growing threats from North Korea. The official acknowledged that doing so would displease Beijing, but noted that China has the option of helping constrain and pressure the North.

WNU Editor: Is this the "stick" that President Trump is going to use to change China's mind? .... China to Trump: We don't want a trade war - but if there is one, you'd lose (Kansas City/Washington Post). My prediction .... China is not going to put more pressure on North Korea .... opting for the status quo and the hope that things will settle down. I call this wishful thinking .... there is no reason to feel optimistic that things will settle down.

China does not want a united Korea with 30 thou Am troops on its border.

The deal is this: China gets rid of K and takes care of major operations, together with US and some allies. Shock and awe but precision strikes only. Major operations of phase 1 to last less than 3 days during which north korean troop leaders to surrender publicly. Cleanup operations for next 5 years. Provisional government with clear stated goal to unite north and south over next 50 years. US to withdraw all troops from the peninsula by 2030. Nuclear disarmament of northern part. China gets Taiwan before 2030. US not to intervene and to remove THAAD from south Korea. Open for discussion is which island chains remain under China control.

dream on A...China will never allow a unified Korea on its border with 30 thousand American troops stationed in that nation...would you want China instead of Canada on your border and think it a good deal? N. Korea has formidable army and they will not go gently into that good night for Taiwan. Your plan is the sort of paper thing that academics do but does not make itself a usable plan in reality

"China does not want a united Korea with 30 thou Am troops on its border. "

1) A united Korea would not necessarily have any U.S. soldiers.

2) The soldiers are there because the Koreas are not in a state of peace. There is an armistice but no peace treaty.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean_Armistice_Agreement

Even retards like Young Communist understand there is no peace treaty.

No doubt Young Communist gets his tighty whiteys in a twist just thinking about it when he ptotests along side Code Pink.

3) GWB pulled troops out of Korea at the start of the century due to the constraints of budget and manpower and the needs of the Iraq War.

All the sunshine pretend communists & bent nationalists in SK screamed like stuck pigs. For years these yahoos whined & bitched about occupation. Then we started pulling troops out and they started bitching.

4) South Korea is an economic trading partner and ally. A united Korea may and probably would as well.

So maybe we would have troops somewhere in theater or perhaps we could have something like an Asian Reforger.

5) China has conquered and governed large parts of North Korea in the past. Maybe American troops should stay so as to prevent Chinese hegemony.

Maybe the Chinese government will demand that the Koreans send them 100 virgins in a year. I bet that gets liberals all bothered, but whether it is to protest or anticipation, it is hard to tell. DADT

I think we should trade anon for a real Chinese political prisoner and real classical liberal.

Maybe some lucky medical tourist will become part anon?

If we could no pacify Iraq with 30,000 troops, I doubt China could be invaded with 30,000 American troops.

Maybe China fears boogeymen and ghosts too.

Trust a Democrat to take a Chinese talking point without criticism.

Thats the kind of thinking that got us into this mess. North Korea IS ITS OWN COUNTRY! It's not up to another country to dictate what another country does, period. North Korea is what it is because American came across the pacific, nucleared bombed Japan and then decided that wasn't enough and moved on to Korea with Soviet help. Just like Berlin you have the Soviet north and American/UN south. Question me this, if Stalin was to blame for the aggression (coldwar) why didn't he take Berlin? Korea would obviously give America an advantage on reinforcements and supply routes. Korea just proved that Soviet power was superior as after two months they owned most of the continent.
