22:58 EST: Speaking of calling it right. Reader and commentator Fred was right earlier to day (link). His comment is below ....

.... 1. Determining the scale of a military operation in the complicated Syrian arena. Should it aim for a regime or a military target, or also extend the attack to the Iranian and Hizballah presence? The thinking behind the latter option is that if weakening Assad is the goal, why not go all the way and hit the foreign forces propping him up as well?

2. A clash with Russian forces must be avoided. However, Russia could agree to stay out of action in the Assad regime’s defense, but would certainly demand in return to be informed in advance of the precise limits of such mililtary operation.

military and intelligence sources reported Thursday that Washington and Moscow have been locked in intense negotiations for hours regarding the possible attack. The outcome is still awaited.

3. The arrival of Chinese President Xi Jinping Thursday for two days of talks with Trump at his Florida residence is a seriously complicating factor. A decision by the US president to go for military action against Syria it would need to be powerful enough to impress his visitor of America's determination not only to cut Assad down but also the North Korean ruler Kim Jong-un, unless China steps in to curb its bellicose neighbor’s nuclear aspirations.

22:54 EST: Sighhh .... I mentioned earlier today that my gut was telling me that some in the Pentagon wanted to go "Rambo" on Syria (link). It looks like they won the day and they have the ear of the President.

North Korea's gonna be epic.

Nothing crazy about this.

This is what's called a measured response...

The Russians were warned in advance. Who likely alerted Syrian personnel. So I'd be surprised if there is any major casualties from this. He might as well been hitting an empty airfield, cause that's what it likely is... just an empty airfield...

It was turned "off " because when your in a war zone 24/7 you always turn off your air defenses for maximum efficiency

If it happened.

As I have pointed out,MSM coverage of Syria has been dominated by fake news for years,

Military grade sarin has inhibitor chrmicals added in the process to keep the sarin's acidity from eating through binary containers and/or eating fuses and dispersant explosive charges. Each process has it's own chemical signature, which allows for the Country of Origin to be positively identified.

Off the top of my head, the UN Investigations of sarin attacks in Syria found:

2 were SAA, possibly accidental, ( sarin has a shelf life of 5 years, and the sarin samples were degraded, well past their best before dates),

1 was ISIS,

1 was al Quida,

and 3 were undetermined.

If the "rescue" video's are "real", ( the White Helmets are al Quida allied, Western Funded, and have faked vids before), then there are a few problems with them:

- sarin "sticks" to victims clothes for 30 minutes or more, which exposes 1st Responders and Medical personel not wearing HazMat suits to lethal exposures,

- sarin does not wash off with water,

- because sarin causes vomiting, foaming and lung fluid accumulation, administering fluids is the best way to kill the victims,

- atropine injections then waiting for the victims to stabilize is the recommended treatment.

Not the first real war the US has become mired in by fake news, knee jerk reactions and fellings of impotence,

Won't be the last.

It's what failing Empires do.

You are epic Jay lol, how can you defend a terrorist like Assad. He is in the same ballpark as ISIS and AQ

Assad bombed schools, hospitals, destroyed Aleppo, used barrell bombs, CW etc

Should be hanged long time ago, like S.Hussein

LMFAO,

Kissenger killed over 2 million in SE Asia, including the illegal ( US law) bombing of two other nations, hundreds of thousands of war crimes, the US placed second in the SE Asia War Games, and Kissenger still got a Nobel.

The choice in Syria, for the Syrian's has always been Assad, ISIS, Syrian Hotel Exiles or al Quida, which is why at their peak, "rebel" forces and supporters amounted to less than 0.65% of the Syrian population, and that includes the 50,000 foreign jihadi's.

Doesn't matter now, actions have consequences in the Middle East.

Remember how they wanted Xi to not be embarrassed? Trump Overlord sending 50+ tomahawks while still shaking hands with Xi... you gotta leave it to Trump, he has his moments. .they are rare. ..but when they come they are tasty as f

And Jay - don't always be so dogmatic. .of course actions have consequences. ..so do inactions...especially in the middle east...just look what Obama's red line caused. Ultimately we can argue both ways (I keep telling you, you just don't listen). In the absence of perfect information you play Captain Hindsight just as we all do, but the difference is you preach and pretend your side is perfect and knows it all. You don't. I don't. Difference is I admit it.

Today 10:36:54 PM EDT
Pentagon spokesman Captain Jeff Davis said:

Russian forces were notified in advance of the strike using the established deconfliction line.
US military planners took precautions to minimise risk to Russian or Syrian personnel located at the airfield.
We are assessing the results of the strike. Initial indications are that this strike has severely damaged or destroyed Syrian aircraft and
support infrastructure and equipment at Shayrat airfield, reducing the
Syrian government’s ability to deliver chemical weapons.
The use of chemical weapons against innocent people will not be tolerated.

Apparently the Russians don't like to share airfields with the likes of Syria. All the frontline Russian jets are at Hmeimim Air Base.

“In both word and action, President Trump sent a strong and clear message today that the use and spread of chemical weapons will not be tolerated. Israel fully supports President Trump's decision and hopes that this message of resolve in the face of the Assad regime's horrific actions will resonate not only in Damascus, but in Tehran, Pyongyang and elsewhere,”

I wonder where Bposter is and his opinion on all of this.. (I miss hearing his "Russia is the most powerful military on earth" broken record).. followed by his "China is the most powerful military after Russia" hit (a classic).. meanwhile Trump doesn't bat an eye sending 59 tomahawks while sipping tea with xi ^^

Trump: "How's the tea, Xi? "
*military guy walks in-hands trump something to sign*
Xi: "Evelything allight?"
trump: "yeah yeah, just have to sign something quick, yawn, up for golf later?"
Military guy: "60 or 120?"
Trump: "ah send 60 for now. ..yawn"
Xi: "60 what? "
Trump: "nothing man, roses, drink your tea"
Bposter: "don't you want to get permission from Russia first? It's the most powerf.."
Trump: "who let this id... of a waiter in? I said no ret****s"

Lol

Trump has lost my support with this move. Our government is insane. For a dove like me, there seems to be no peace option. I'm so sick of the media lies and pushes toward war. And both political parties seem overwhelmingly to support it. It's always just a few fringe people from both sides of the aisle that are against it. From what I have seen online the average citizen however, is digusted with the continual lies. That is my only source of hope.

This looks like one of the most reckless and stupid acts in American history ranking right up there with the stupid decision of imposing sanctions on Russia after Ukraine. If Us leaders continue to behave so recklessly and stupidly, the country cannot expect to survive.

This attack occurred on 4/4. By the evening of 4/6 there is no possible way that enough information could have been gathered and analyzed to be able reach an informed conclusion on did this attack actually happen and who is behind it. Such an investigation would take weeks at best to be done properly.

Prudent investigators would begin by asking questions such as "who has motive and opportunity", "who stands to benefit the most." "who loses the most." and this just scratches the surface.

As to motive and opportunity, Assad was/is winning. He'd have no incentive to upset the status quo and would face huge downside risks in doing so. The "rebels" would love to lure gullible Americans deeper into their power struggle. As such ISIS/Al Qaeda would have much incentive to pull this off assuming it really happened.

Also, add to this DJT first 11 weeks in office have been an epic fail. He's facing multiple investigations and his popularity is in the toilet meaning eh would have been hard pressed to survive his first year in office at this rate. Now this happens. How convenient!! Kind of reminds me of Clinton and Serbia in the 90s. the optics of this look suspicious. "Wag the dog" perhaps. Could DJT pull this off. Probably not but there are enough gullible Americans willing to fall for any trick the "rebels" might try. As have been stated, actions have consequences and this was a stupid one. As such, good results are unlikely.

Essentially we've further undermined any attempts to defuse tensions surrounding Cold War II, obtain Russian cooperation in areas we need, and we've done this by acting rashly in an area where cannot possibly have obtained enough information to understand what really happened and who is behind it. Furthermore US "Intelligence" has demonstrated itself to be a combination of incompetent boobs and political hacks. As such, they are not trustworthy as a primary source of information in pretty much anything.

While HRC was known to either be insane or to possess the mind of an impotent child, I had harbored hopes that DJT would be not act in a similar fashion. Unfortunately he has become infected with the same disease that affects many US politicians. As such, all support for him is now gone.

S-300? They were probably turned off as has been suggested or Assad did not want to waste them in a trivial attack such as this. You've accomplished nothing except to further provoke the enemy, upset any possibility of fruitful negotiations with Russia, further exacerbated Cold War II, very likely advanced the fortunes of Al Qaeda/ISIS by such reckless actions, and you don't even know if the attack actually occurred or if it did who actually did it. Stupid action Mr. Trump.

Unfortunately some people here seem to think this is all a big game. This is no game. America's survival is perilous and hangs by a thread. Such reckless and stupid actions like this only undermine its prospects even more.
