Is North Korea Next?

NBC: Trump’s Options for North Korea Include Placing Nukes in South Korea

The National Security Council has presented President Donald Trump with options to respond to North Korea's nuclear program — including putting American nukes in South Korea or killing dictator Kim Jong-un, multiple top-ranking intelligence and military officials told NBC News.

Both scenarios are part of an accelerated review of North Korea policy prepared in advance of Trump's meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping this week.

The White House hopes the Chinese will do more to influence Pyongyang through diplomacy and enhanced sanctions. But if that fails, and North Korea continues its development of nuclear weapons, there are other options on the table that would significantly alter U.S. policy.

WNU Editor: This Russian news report is probably accurate .... ‘New strategy’ on North Korea in the works after Trump meets Chinese president – Tillerson (RT). As to what that "new strategy" may be .... a combination of political/economic/and military measures all working together to squeeze North Korea. And in the event that everything explodes .... making sure that all the countries in the region will be united to stop North Korea .... and that will include China and Russia. As to deploying U.S. nuclear weapons to South Korea .... to me it is a bad idea, but many South Koreans want it. And as for direct military action .... no one in the region wants that right now.

Update: Truth be told .... he usually is in hiding .... Expert: Watch to see if Kim Jong-Un goes into hiding after Syria strike (FOX News).

China would rather (silently) agree to a decapitation strike before allowing nukes (and the equipment that goes with it) in south Korea.

Japan already has nukes

South Korea may have nukes or will soon have nukes.

China had better agree or their whole neighborhood will be nuked up.

Japan does not have nukes nor nukes stationed there by US. If you're referring to Godzilla movies that's another matter

I'm not aware of Japanese nukes either. As for South Korean nukes, it's about time. They really need to be domedtically produced, domestically msintained, completely under the control of South Korea, and c9mpletely independent of America. The same applies to Japan.

By developing their own nuclear weapons programs this gives them a better chance of defending their countries and it would relieve some of the pressure on the American military. Essentially this wouldn't hurt our alliances with these countries and might even help strengthen these alliances.

Actually the development of these domestic nuclear weapons programs is probably going to happen any way. All those affected by this in some way should probably be planning accordingly.

I suppose China, the US, or someone else could try and prevent it by applying economic sanctions. The problem with this is such sanctions seldom work, they tend to strengthen the resolve of the sanctioned, and generally end up undermining the sanctioner.

The other option would be military action to prevent this. The US military is spread to thin and badly wirn down. As such, it'd be foolish in the extreme to try and use the US military this way.

Since it's going to happen any way, the US could offer to assist. While our assistance isn't needed and would be declined, the South Koreans and Japanese might appreciate the offer and there'd be little to no downside.

Militarily strong allies operating independent of America who have a robust nuclear deterrent would act as a check on North Korea and China, would allow the US to properly deploy it's forces in ways that make more sense for it's security, and should improve these alliances. That is if the US gets out in front here and is seen by these people as a help instead of as a hindrance.

Various people have said Japan has nukes including a well regarded Russian speaking pundit.

I don't watch Godzilla movies. Nor do I watch Super Croc, Croc vs Gator, Predator vs Alien, etc.

They are boring.

Now archeologists and biologists saying the biggest a snake can be is 65 feet long during the time of the dinosaurs. .. now that is interesting.

Snakes sizes vary by latitude and food abundance.
