Harry J. Kazianis, The Week: How Trump's Syria strike could spiral into World War III
While I strongly disagree with President Trump's decision to launch a cruise missile strike in response to the chemical weapons attack that occurred in Syria last week, I can't say I disagree with him on a moral level.
The president was reportedly moved to action after seeing images of innocent women and children gasping for their last breaths, condemned to death out of the sheer randomness of where they lived — one more tragedy atop of countless others in a civil war that seems to have no end in sight.
Trump had the best of intentions — to punish the wicked responsible for this clear crime against humanity. But in the dangerous game that is international politics, Trump would be wise to quickly grasp the ultimate of inconvenient truths: Practicing "good guy vs. bad guy" foreign policy where the "evil" are to be "punished" is a simplification that can only lead to disaster.

WNU Editor: I think .... or should I say I hope .... that in the end both Washington and Moscow will not push the button. But in the event that such a scenario does lead to a heavy loss of life for Russian soldiers in Syria (or elsewhere) .... I do know that we will definitely be entering a new and very dangerous Cold War that will be just as intense as the Cold War was between the U.S. and the Soviet Union from the end of the Second World War to the fall of the Warsaw block.

I will need to read the article, time permitting must say the "teaser" indicates an author who has a degree of wisdom and circumspection. Operatives words "has a degree of" such fine qualities. As to the moral level of agreement, hundreds of thousands have died. Why are we worked up now? Besides WE DON'T EVEN KNOW WHO WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ATTACK!! It very easily could have been Al Qaeda/ISIS. Motive and opportunity, they have/had both in abundance.
The problem with intentions of any kind and the lack of good judgment generally lead to disaster. While the editor is correct to be concerned about the possibility of a massive loss of life for Russian soldiers and where that may lead, I would also be concerned about a massive loss for American soldiers. A Russian reprisal for this will come where at some time, of that I can pretty much guarantee anyone reading this. While I would expect their reprisal to be well thought out to send the proper message while minimizing the risk to Americans on the mainland at least right now, the Syrian/Iranian response may not be so measured. They or their operatives may attack the US mainland resulting in massive loss of life there.
A key difference between BHO and DJT is BHO was often rash and impulsive in his speaking then later had to back away. For example issuing the "red line" was a rash, impulsive, and stupid thing to do. It never should have been done in the first place. He wisely back away form this. In contrast, DJT seems both rash and impulsive both in words and in actions.
If Russia was truly a friendly country this scenario would not be remotely possible.
