President Trump: 'Major, Major' Conflict With North Korea Possible (Updated)

Daily Mail: Trump warns 'major, major' North Korea conflict is 'absolutely' possible and admits he thought the presidency would be easier than his 'previous life' in interview marking his first 100 days

* Donald Trump said resolving the current tensions peacefully was 'very difficult'
* He said he hopd to get help from Chinese premier Xi Jinping, a 'good man'
* And he said that Kim Jong-un had it 'hard' when he took over the DPRK aged 27
* 'I'm not giving him credit or not giving him credit,' the president said
* He said he hoped that Kim was 'rational' enough to engage in diplomacy

Donald Trump says that the US could 'absolutely' go to war with North Korea over its continuing nuclear missile program.

His remarks came as part of a wide-ranging interview on Thursday in which he discussed selling South Korea a missile defense system and slammed trade deals established by the previous administration.

But it was the threat of a nuclear attack by North Korea on the US or its allies that seemed to occupy much of his attention.

"catch 22," I think that does aptly describe the current situation. "The deal maker" appears to have maneuvered both him and us in a nearly impossible situation.

We go to hot war US casualties are going to be enormous and it is unlikely they will be limited to the battlefields on the Korean peninsula couple with at best only a 50/50 chance of ultimate victory at best. In the event of "victory" it would be extraordinarily pyric. If we can achieve a diplomatic solution, the concessions we are going to need to be make will be enormous.

Maybe we have to go to war with North Korea now. Maybe we have no choice. Given the stakes and what is going to cost with only a 50/50 chance of a military victory at best we need to be certain about this. Maybe my analysis is wrong. I sure hope so.
