President Trump Tells Congress He Is Considering Military Action In Syria

CNN: Trump considering options for Syria retaliation, source says

(CNN)President Donald Trump has told some members of Congress that he is considering military action in Syria in retaliation for this week's chemical attack, and recognizes the seriousness of the situation, a source familiar with the calls tells CNN.

The source said the President had not firmly decided to go ahead with it but said he was discussing possible actions with Defense Secretary James Mattis.

Trump is relying on the judgment of Mattis, according to the source.

US officials tell CNN the Pentagon has long-standing options to strike Syria's chemical weapons capability and has presented those options to the administration.

The sources stressed a decision has not been made.

LMFAO,

So the so called "non-interventionist" Hair Furour is yammering about intervening in the top two worst places for the US to intervene.

LMFAO

Hopefully, the JCS remains sane.

Jay. Are you sure that it is the JCS who are not pushing for it? My gut .... and it is just my gut .... is telling me that some of them want to go Rambo in Syria.

JCS and Larov tag teamed the members of the Obama Administration that wanted to react to the so called "Red Line", and that was before Russia had "boots on the ground".

The Obama Administration killed the CIA support for the jihadi's in the last day's of the Administration, ( some CIA support continues),

and the hallmark of the Pentagon's program, is via "boots on the ground", they are actually "partnering" with the SFA/YPG, and are aware of their limitations, militarially and politically.

While there are members of Hair Furour's Admin that want to go "Rambo" on the NORK's, Iran and now Syria,

The JCS seem to be well aware of the limits of US military power in Suria and North Korea.

That was the big reason I voted for Trump. I was afraid of world war 3 with Hillary as president.

Lmfao you can blame Obamas inaction on both fronts for the mess Trumps inherited.
Russia will sit by and watch a couple of dozen tomahawkes just like they just watch israel smash syria with impunity.
Nth korea ? Maybe you prefer a glow in the dark Hawaii. ?

Hair Furour talked the "non-interventionist" game during the campaign, but historically, he'd never met a US war he didn't like and has a long history of tweeting that the US should just bomb a whole bunch of countries for dissing the US. He also has a long history of calling US Presidents "weak" and not willing to "take the gloves off". He doesn't believe that there are limits to US military power, just a lack of will.

Hillary, while a big proponent of R2P, also came to understand that there are limits to US Military power.

LMFAO,

I guess losing 17 wars against fringe opponents just isn't good enough anymore.

1. Determining the scale of a military operation in the complicated Syrian arena. Should it aim for a regime or a military target, or also extend the attack to the Iranian and Hizballah presence? The thinking behind the latter option is that if weakening Assad is the goal, why not go all the way and hit the foreign forces propping him up as well?

2. A clash with Russian forces must be avoided. However, Russia could agree to stay out of action in the Assad regime’s defense, but would certainly demand in return to be informed in advance of the precise limits of such mililtary operation.

military and intelligence sources reported Thursday that Washington and Moscow have been locked in intense negotiations for hours regarding the possible attack. The outcome is still awaited.

3. The arrival of Chinese President Xi Jinping Thursday for two days of talks with Trump at his Florida residence is a seriously complicating factor. A decision by the US president to go for military action against Syria it would need to be powerful enough to impress his visitor of America's determination not only to cut Assad down but also the North Korean ruler Kim Jong-un, unless China steps in to curb its bellicose neighbor’s nuclear aspirations.

Betting money is on "putting Assad on notice, just like Kim.

Lotsa talk, no action.

Strikes against the SAA or SAAF in Ildib or Palmyria Province would only either help ISIS,

Or help the Turks and their pet jihadi's,

Or help the rebranded al Quida and their jihadi BFF's.

Strikes against the SAA or SAAF in the SFA/YPG zones would only help ISIS or the Turks, as the SAA and SAAF have a "Gentleman's Agreement" with the SFA/YPG to guard their flanks against both the Turks and ISIS.

Russia's probably going to veto any US military action and will get Agent Orange and his Minions to take it to the UNSC.

Well, I guess that since Russia controls Trump then in fact this is their plan ready to be enacted.

If Tomahawks are fired, it will be because Trump, Tillerson and Haley publically gave Assad a "pass" on Monday and Tuesday,

So Trump is taking the claimed Wednesday CW attack as a personal insult.

Putin doesn't "control" Trump. Nobody does, not Bannon, not Jared, not Ivanka, even Trummp doesn't control Trump. So far the best anybody's been able to do is hide his Smartphones from him for less than a week.
