Bloomberg: Bannon Loses National Security Council Role in Trump Shakeup

* Intelligence director, Joint Chiefs chairman elevated
* McMaster given greater authority over security matters

President Donald Trump reorganized his National Security Council on Wednesday, removing his chief strategist, Stephen Bannon, and downgrading the role of his Homeland Security Adviser, Tom Bossert, according to a person familiar with the decision and a regulatory filing.

National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster was given responsibility for setting the agenda for meetings of the NSC or the Homeland Security Council, and was authorized to delegate that authority to Bossert, at his discretion, according to the filing.

Under the move, the national intelligence director, Dan Coats, and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Marine Corps General Joseph Dunford, are again "regular attendees" of the NSC’s principals committee.

WNU Editor: I repeat what I said on January 30, 2017 ....

.... national security, wars, defense and intelligence policies .... these are always issues that have been politicised by every President in the past. The optics of putting chief strategist Steve Bannon on the NSC certainly do not look good .... but in reality .... politics is what drives many of the national security decisions that comes out from the Council. As to reports that the Joint Chief and other senior intel officers have been left out .... this is a mistake .... but since this announcement the White House Chief of Staff is now saying that these officials have not been left out of the NSC.

Update: NBC is now reporting that Seve Banning left on his own. He was appointed because Michael Flynn was fired, and sat for only one meeting.

Agreed, I never felt Bannon was anything more than a middle finger to the left by the Trump team, just a symbolic appointment for his help during the election.
