AMN Al-Masdar News: After Mosul, we will retake Kirkuk, Sinjar and Tal Afar from ISIS: US General

BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:15 A.M.) – General Joe Dunford, the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that after Mosul is liberated from ISIS, Tal Afar, Kirkuk countryside and the Sinjar region will be the next areas of focus.

“It is not our judgment that the Iraqis will be self-sustaining and self-sufficient in the wake of Mosul,” Dunford said.

“More important, it is not Prime Minister Abadi’s assessment. He believes he will need continued U.S. support in Iraq post-Mosul,” he continued.

Got to retake Mosul first. Then military planners can worry about retaking the other places named.

Mosul has not even been taken yet. Perhaps some are getting to excited to quickly here.

You are correct editor that this war is far from over if/when Mosul falls. Unlike some I have never been optimistic that this would be an easy enemy to defeat. Even though many of our "leaders" did not understand this at the start and some still stubbornly refuse to acknowledge it, this is a VERY tough enemy. While I might not be as optimistic as you that Mosul will fall, I think you are correct that it will fall.

Assuming this is something America wants to participate in perhaps the focus should be on Mosul right now rather than talking smack about what one is going to do elsewhere. This would mean having a reasoned debate about what our role is going to be here and what it can realistically be expected to be. So far this hasn't happened.

Hmm, did he mean the districts because I am pretty sure the government has the town of Sinjar and the city of Kirkuk.

I'm confused. Either the projection of our strategy is a ploy to mislead the enemy or Trump forgot his criticism of unveiling military plans.
