What Would Be The Russian Response To A U.S. Military Strike Against The Syrian Regime



Greg Jaffe, Washington Post: The main question after any strikes on Syria: How does Russia respond?

For President Trump, choosing targets and launching cruise missiles to punish the Syrian regime for using chemical weapons this week may be a relatively clear-cut decision. The big problem is what comes next.

The military has been preparing options for a strike against President Bashar al-Assad since well before 2013, when the Syrian dictator killed more than 1,000 of his own people in a devastating nerve gas attack.

A chemical attack by the Assad regime on Tuesday killed scores of civilians and has triggered late-night meetings in the White House, where the president’s senior national security advisers are reviewing old military plans.

Update: Russia warns of 'negative consequences' if U.S. targets Syria (Reuters)

WNU Editor: As I had mentioned in the previous post .... if the U.S. launches military strikes that results in Russian fatalities .... expect an air-war over the skies of Syria. And from there .... in a worse case scenario .... Russian and American military forces will be on hair-trigger alert everywhere in the world that will almost certainly result in some altercation and fire-fight. On a more positive note .... at least the U.S. and Russian diplomats are still talking to each other .... Tillerson, Russia's Lavrov spoke about Syria poison gas attack (Reuters).
