DARPA And Boeing Are Teaming Up to Build a Hypersonic Spaceplane



Daily Mail: The X-37b's big brother gets the go ahead: Boeing to build XS-1 'Phantom Express' hypersonic space plane that will allow short notice military satellite launches


* The project, known as XS-1, is expected to debut in 2020,
* Will 'provide short-notice, low-cost access to space'
* Takes off like a rocket, releases an expendable second-stage rocket and satellite, then turns around and land like an airplane on a runway

The mysterious X-37b spaceplane has captured the imagination of many, with some suggesting it is a spy plane and others who think it could be a space bomber.

But now its big brother is one step closer to being built.

The project, known as XS-1, is expected to debut in 2020, and military bosses claim it will 'bolster national security by providing short-notice, low-cost access to space.'

I remember this little thing called the internet, when it was just confined to about a dozen schools on the east coast.
