German Chancellor Merkel: Europe Can No Longer Rely On The U.S. And Britain

DW: Merkel: Europe can no longer rely on US and Britain

The German chancellor's comments came after contentious meetings with US President Donald Trump at NATO and G7 summit meetings. Trump clashed with America's allies over global warming, mutual defense and trade.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Sunday that Europe has to forge its own path forward, as the United States and Britain were no longer reliable partners.

"The times when we could fully rely on others have passed us by a little bit, that's what I've experienced in recent days," she said while speaking at a campaign rally in Munich.

Her reference was to the contentious G7 Summit meeting in Sicily, which ended Saturday with the world's democratic powers divided. Most notably they were split "six against one," as Merkel described it Saturday, on the man-made threat posed by global warming.

WNU Editor: If she believes that Europe is going to follow the German lead on where Europe should go .... she is in complete denial on how many Europeans view Germany. To put it bluntly .... for as long as I can remember European animosity towards Germany has always been there .... it just differs in intensity from state to state ... and on the issue.  So why did German Chancellor Merkel make the speech .... in the eyes of some in the U.S. press this is because of President Trump .... Trump's Trip Was a Catastrophe for U.S.-Europe Relations (David Frum, The Atlantic). In my eyes.... this is all about German politics. The Germans are going to the polls in a few months .... and my friends in Germany are telling me that President Trump is being bashed by the German media on a level that even the U.S. press does not approach. German Chancellor knows this .... and she believes that criticising Trump while boosting German nationalism and Germany's leadership role in Europe on her election stumps are a winner for her. Is it a winner for her .... I do not know. But I do know that Germans do not like to be lectured (even when they are wrong) .... and President Trump was very blunt and focused on what was important to him when he met Merkel .... terrorism/NATO defense/countries running trade deficits with the U.S.. On a final note .... and one that just rubbed me the wrong way .... German Chancellor Merkel believes that she speaks for Europe when she says that they can no longer rely on the U.S. and Britain. I say the opposite .... the U.S., Britain, and many EU states can no longer rely on Germany.

Over the weekend, the G7, became the G6,

Hair Furour stood infront of a memorial to 9/11, and NATO's only invocation of Article 5, unlike every other American President, couldn't even mention Article 5, and proceeded to try to shake down the NATO members for their lunch money.

After the mess of BushII, members of the Atlantic Charter and the EU really hoped that Obama would be able to restore sanity to the relationships,

But the Obama years, Brexit and Trump showed that there's a minority of American's and Britons, who hate the International Agreements and Instututions that bring "western" peace and prosperity, with a white hot passion,

And have no clue how those Agreements and Institutions bring "western" peace and prosperity.

The cycles of extremists trying to shoot themselves in the face and destroy that peace and prosperity, in every election chcle since 2000, has made the EU finally realize that Britain and the US are no longer stable or reliable partners, on any issue.

Canada will come to the same conclusions during the NAFTA talks.

The countries who were Global Sepoys and Pomeranian Grenadiers for the short lived, post Cold War "American Century" on trade, security, finance, will go their own way, bit by bit.

Given that the Orange Bloat doesn't believe in Article 5, why is Canada still in Afghanistan?

The EU's finally come to the conclusion that when you host a WTO confrence for minimal standards for LED illumination devices, screens and projectors, and the US/UK rep goes on a rant about the Illuminati,

The US/UK isn't a reliable partner.

When you are in a meeting on Medical Standards and Immunization for International travellers under the USEUOS standards, and the US/UK delegate goes on an anti-vax rant,

The UK/US isn't a reliable partner.

When you are holding PROTUS talks on standards and liability for transborder pollution regulation, mitigation and compensation, and all the US/UK member wants to talk about is Chemtrails,

The US/UK isn't a reliable partner.

History shows that Alliances don't last for ever, like in marriage where people grow apart, countries in Alliances grow apart, this is what is occurring right now in the west.It is also happening among the peoples of all the western countries, the Left Right divide/hate we see in the Media and Alt-Media and among people and political parties where no compromise is tolerated is the current situation, we need to go no further than the comments section of this blog to see this being playing out. People in the West are entrenching into their respective positions, the end result will not be pretty. Best entertainment on the plant.

Maybe it's apropos of nothing, but my old European history prof said that France was only at peace when Germany was divided. Germany is no longer divided. So far, it's only economic muscle Herr Merkel is flexing.

In all levels, people, the political establishment, .... already realised that but in US and Canda are in a sweet dream like UK.
Actually, Trump brought an irreversible tectonic shift to the world that it does matter even he would be impeached tomorrow.

Trump didn't bring it,

It's been a long time coming, and Trump is just the final example that the US has turned Idiocracy from a bad movie comedy to a documentary.

Many in the West and Globally hoped beyond hope that Obama's election and Government could reverse the trend in the US towards kakistocracy,

Trumps election, and the fact that even having some "smart people" in the room to try to "manage him", doesn't work, shows that the US has become a kakistocracy.

There ain't no coming back from that for the US.

Jay Farquharson said...

The "right-left" divide in the ROW, ain't that bad. Globally, the right/left unite on good legislation a hundred times a week. If you look at Europe, the discourse between the right/left is civil, but not between the far left and the far right.

The illusion of a global, unyeilding divide is simply a productnof the excessive weight of the US, where there is barely a left at all, a center/right willing to work with other centerists, ( eg Obamacare), but also a far right No Caucus, unwilling to compromise on anything.

But you are right, it is the greatest entertainment on earth, part comedy, part Dumber and Dumber go to Washington, part horror show and suspense mustery. For a while there, it even managed to knock Pornhub down to the #2 google search.

Somehow, I don't think Global Thermonuclear War is gonna get the same online views.

If that's you in the photo, you really should see a doctor if you can afford to, about your obesety problem,

Chase jones said...

Lol its called muscle tone try getting some and you might get some pussy some day.

Jay Farquharson said...

Laughing my ass off,

A 6 pack is muscle tone, you look like you ate the Pillsbury Doughboy at one sitting.

But seriously, for your age, you are way too fat. It leads to lifelong health problems, diabetes, heart attacks, strokes, back problems. Health Crisis's are the #1 cause of Personal Bankruptcies in the US, and unaffordable HealthCare is the #1 cause of death.

I'm pretty sure you don't have HealthCare, because any Doctor would have been telling you the same thing, for years, that for your age, body style, frame and weight, you are bordering on obese.

Take some of your beer and bud funds, and buy some Bronze Level Obamacare while it still exists, and go see a Doctor before it's too late.

On the bright side, you are at the age where you should be getting your prostate checked regularly, if you get yourself some Obamacare, while you still can, you can have it done by a professional, not the amateurs you've relied on so far.

Lol i AINT touchin the beer n bud funds lol

Jay Farquharson said...

Course not, you prefer to die slowly and young.

But seriously, do what it takes to see a doctor and get a full blood work done.

Early diabete's can often be treated with nothing more than managed diet and exercise.

Insulin co-pays can run as much as $1700 for a months supply, which is why a lot of Diabetic's in the US have to buy drugs smuggled into the US from Canada, or use animal grade insulin.
