Is Venezuela On The Verge Of Becoming A Failed State?

RTE: US warns Venezuela crisis could become major conflict

The United States has warned that Venezuela's crisis is worsening and could escalate into a major conflict similar to Syria or South Sudan.

At least 43 people have died during weeks of clashes between government forces and opposition demonstrators angry at President Nicolas Maduro's moves to strengthen his hold on power and his handling of an economic and political crisis.

Following a closed-door session of the UN Security Council, US Ambassador Nikki Haley told reporters that the crisis in Venezuela is deepening.

Socialism at its pinnacle. If there were ever a need for a palace coup, this is it.

Russ,

I think you are right about a "coup" needed and socialism. I must point out though for a "coup" to work it must have the backing of the military. Right now, at least it appears to me, the military does not seem about to change sides.

Even if a coup does occur, the new government will not be any friendlier to America than the current one. In fact, it will probably be even more hostile to America than the current one. Rightly or wrongly we are hated there. As such, if we want to strengthen the current government, by all means we should get involved!!

We should stay as far from this as possible. If outsiders are to assist in the "coup," it should be the neighboring countries who are likely being adversely affected by refugees.

It's been failing. We all know they are forcing labor. Farming forced labor because there is no food.

I am so old that when teaching at a university I had any number of students from that country. Their parents would send them "north" if they were difficult, annoying, etc., to get them out the way but still cause them some good by getting education. A nice bunch and very sophisticated and of course wealthy.
